They actually failed to appear on the Dick Clark Live Wednesday thing...I distinctly remember tuning in, watching & waiting for their appearance (which I expected to be a performance of their current singe "Peggy Sue")...which had been advertised, but on the night of the show there was no mention of it and they weren't on.  Unless I tuned in on a different week and missed their actual performance on the night of Dec. 20th...but if that were the case, I'd think a video tape of it would be in circulation by now.

Soundcastle is a studio in the Silverlake area of LA.

I think Brian may have done some tracking for his 1988 album there...

Indeed he did, but I'd never heard of it 'til the time of Brian's sessions in '87/'88...
but a quick google brings me to StudioExpresso.com's spotlight on the studio, which reveals it was in fact opened in 1967, and one of their clients listed is "Beach Boys".  So there!  Another studio that didn't make it into the inner sleeve credits of "LA Light" (another being Studio 55). 

Shargi-La in Malibu is another one I'd read mentioned in late '78 but never knew what was recorded there...now I do..."I'm Beggin' You Please", which due to the nature of it being an incomplete piano/vocal demo, I'd always asssumed was a home recording...but Alan oh Alan...is the Shangri-La version a more complete track?

We haven't pulled the Shangri-La tape to listen to it, but the documentation indicates that it was a basic tracking session.  Drums, bass, piano, and electric piano.  No vocals listed, though.

In the interests of getting the info correct the venue for the March 8 & 9 shows should be the "Sidney Myer Music Bowl", not the "Meyer Music Bowl".

And what is with the March 10 MIU session for Matchpoint and Tomboy at Wally Heider's LA studio? The entire band, including Brian, were in Australia at the time.

That's what the tape box says, and yes, it's got to be wrong - hence it's in italics, indicating a session with a (highly) dubious date attached. The "Be Still" session from 1968 is a similar case: Dennis was on tour with the band in Florida at the time.

When was Celebration recorded? Also the May 28th PM Magazine TV show where Brian and Carl were in bad shape is missing. Actually the date may be here.

The 2-28-72 session hasn't been changed to Bolic Sound. I with some help here was able to determine it was that studio a month back.

ian...don't know if you know about this show or not. i bought 2 tickets in 1978 for a show at the charleston civic center in charleston, west virginia on august 27th, 1978. i was a little sad when i found out that the show was cancelled because (it was said) the group was going to play a festival in cincinnati, oh. and i see it listed on the site along with a cleveland, oh show that day. i still have the 2 ticket stubs..had tickets # 2411 & 2412.

The Celebration material was recorded in 1977 and released in 78- look at 77 for those sessions. Brian appeared with Mike on American Bandstand in May 78 and they performed Celebration material (performances as of now still on Youtube-search Beach Boys 1978 and you'll see them. Brian looks really enthusiastic-shades of the 60s for a brief moment

Anybody who knows of missing shows-let me know. I just know that there were a few more in June and August...They are hard to find sometimes

It might be worth pointing out that Brian was absent from most or all of the August shows, until the shows they played with Jan & Dean starting in Michigan.  He was definitely absent from the Columbia, MD show.

Correct- yeah he was not at the Cleveland or Pine Knob shows either-according to reviews I have. I think he skipped the whole Aug 3-14 tour. He played most shows that year though-and was there for most shows in 79 as well-though in 79 he often just sat at the piano...

He was in a hospital during mid summer and again in November. Hard year for Brian.

Andrew, were ALL of the shows from the Austrailian tour filmed? Do any of the films still exist? Well, I know that at least one Melbourne shows has been bootleged.

There is a video of at least the Melbourne show, but that is all I've ever seen. There is an audio tape of the Perth show (14th). That's all I know of.

I was told that a sixty minute film from Brisbane was discovered in the 1980's.  I have a questuion about that Perth 14th show audio tape. Are any other songs besides "God Only Knows" and "Good Vibrations" circulating? I have asked that question sevberal times, but I've never been able to get an answer.

The two Perth shows circulate entirely, audience recordings.

The GOK and GV tracks are actually from Sydney.

I'm not sure about that-I have heard the perth show and the version of Good Vibrations is the one mentioned by Carlin- in his book- where Carl is just making a mess of it and Brian, out of nowhere, suddenly comes alive and starts the Hum-De-Dum chant to get them out of a jam-though Carl promptly starts the mess again. If that is not from the Perth show-than Carl was seriously messed up at the Sydney show as well.  Without a doubt-the most ragged Good Vibrations ever sung by Carl

Not sure where it's from (on the '78 Oz tour, natch), but I've heard Carl sing the world's worst version of "Darlin". Pitch, timing, phrasing, key... none of them were even close.

Not correct. Perth shows are soundboards. GOK & GV are not, I repeat, ARE NOT, from Sydney they are from the first Perth show 14-Mar-78. They have been incorrectly labelled on boots. There is no argument on this - it has been gone over a gazillion times on this and other boards. I was at the Sydney shows and those recordings ARE NOT Sydney, the Perth performances have been verified by people who were there as well.

I read somewhere that Carl fell into the drumset during Darlin' at one of the Australian shows. How you could wind up all the way across the stage into the drumset when you're supposed to be singing at the mic, I have no clue.   :lol
