Title: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: b00ts on February 28, 2008, 07:03:28 PM Let's see if we can get these all corralled here, as I've been looking for them. I just ordered the single of "Walking Down The Path of Life" b/w "Love and Mercy" (a beautiful track hopefully stripped of its Synthiness, which I do like for what it is, but I like Brian's live versions better..) here are these and other non-album BW songs from this decade that I can think of:
1) Walking Down The Path Of Life 2) Love and Mercy (New Version) 3) Spirit of Rock and Roll (Re-recorded Songs from Here & Back Version) - Was this an outtake from Gettin' In Over My Head? Since the other Sweet Insanity tracks were on there... 4) California Feelin' (Like SOR&R and the Jardine and Love tracks from SFHAB, it is odd to me that this was put on a Beach Boys CD) 5) Believe In Yourself (WHERE CAN I FIND THIS? I know it was done for an animated show...) 6) Live Let Live (Arctic Tale Version) 7) Midnight's Another Day (Demo) 8) Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl (Demo) 9) Heaven (Carl Wilson Cover) Are there studio versions of "This Isn't Love" and "The First Time?" It's not a 2000-era release, but there is also a super-obscure 80's BW track (credited to the Beach Boys) called "Barbie," which was packed with a Barbie doll on a 45 record. Anyone heard it? Is it any good? Any others? This will help the wait for That Lucky Old Sun, at least... Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: ♩♬🐸 Billy C ♯♫♩🐇 on February 28, 2008, 08:56:40 PM Love & Mercy is great... it uses a similar arrangement as the live versions. "Barbie" (aka "Christine") was from 1986-1987... " pretty decent , but was actually "released" (if I can call it that) as a BB record. "Believe In Yourself" was from Duck Dodgers. "This Isn't Love" was released as an instrumental on the "Songs Without Words" cd.
Also, a 2007 version of "God Only Knows" and "What Love can Do". Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: Chris Brown on February 28, 2008, 10:09:26 PM I don't remember exactly when or how it was released, but add "Rodney on the Roq" to the list.
Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: Aegir on February 28, 2008, 10:13:18 PM "Believe In Yourself" was also released on the Endless Summer Quarterly compilation album "Carl Wilson - Under God".
Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: Andrew G. Doe on February 28, 2008, 11:10:03 PM I just ordered the single of "Walking Down The Path of Life" b/w "Love and Mercy" Not b/w - it's a one-track CD, the two songs are segued. Can you have a two-song medley ? Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: smile-holland on February 29, 2008, 12:19:40 AM Rodney On The Roq was released on the "Major of the Sunset Strip" soundtrack, 2004. Great track!
additions: - On Christmas Day (2000, released on the anthology cd "20 Christmas Stars III, also a download on bw.com) - Little Saint Nick (new 2004 version, available on bw.com only) - White Christmas (2002, available on bw.com only) - Love And Mercy (2001, Brian playing solo on his piano, recorded especially for the opening of his then-new website) - Brian's Christmas Message (2005, okay, not a song really, but a bonus "message"track on the single "What I Really Want For Christmas") - Doin' The Krabby Patty (2006, Spongebob CD) - Speed Turtle (2007, forgot which CD.... but written by Sandra Boyton and vocals by BW) and there's a heck-load of single-versions, instrumental versions, live versions, anda remix of BWPS-tracks that are not available on the regular album... + a conversation with BW, April 2005, available on the bonus-CD that was available through LSL-productions only if ordering the SMiLE dvd. as for songs/projects BW participated in, there are quite a few... this is not a complete list... from 2000 till now: - Grief Never Grows Old (by One World Project, charity single for the Asian tsunami victims, 2005) - Hand On My Shoulder (by Anton Fig, 2002. Leadvoc. Blondie Chaplin, bv's BW), the last hidden track from that same album is part of this song with just Brian's bv's... - Delirious Love (2006 or 2007, Neil Diamond with Brian Wilson) - In My Room (2007, Bill Medley with BW and Phil Everley on bv's) - Carnie Wilson A Mother's Gift (Lullabyies From The Heart) (2006, BW doing lead and bv's on You Are So Beautiful) - Taylor Mills: Lullagoodbye (2007, BW doing bv's on Raven and Cradle Me) - Wilson Phillips: California (2004, BW on piano and doing guestvocal on In My Room) Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: mikeyj on February 29, 2008, 02:29:30 AM - On Christmas Day (2000, released on the anthology cd "20 Christmas Stars III, also a download on bw.com) - Little Saint Nick (new 2004 version, available on bw.com only) - White Christmas (2002, available on bw.com only) Regarding these three tracks, are the first two the same recordings that appeared on What I Really Want For Christmas? The first song as a bonus track of course. As for the third song here, I didn't even know such a version existed! ??? Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: Andrew G. Doe on February 29, 2008, 02:35:27 AM - Doin' The Krabby Patty (2006, Spongebob CD)2005) Not a BW composition or recording - he just does the bvs with the girls (D&D). Think there might be some confusion - Brian did an acapella version of "Silent Night" which, along with "On Christmas Day" and the utterly delightful "Joy To The World", are bonus tracks on the 2005 Xmas album. "LSN" is a differnt version again... live I think. Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: smile-holland on February 29, 2008, 05:34:10 AM - Doin' The Krabby Patty (2006, Spongebob CD)2005) Not a BW composition or recording - he just does the bvs with the girls (D&D). That's correct, I accidentally placed in the wrong list. Speed Turtle wasn't written by BW either, btw... Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2012 non-album tracks Post by: PhilSpectre on July 08, 2012, 09:21:12 AM Thought I would revive this thread from the mists of time :) .
Now we've had the bonus tracks from TLOS for a few years, we can add those plus various other more recent tracks to our list of BW non-album tracks , which is now something like this - TLOS Bonus Tracks Just Like Me and You Oh Mi Amor Message Man Good Kind of Love (version with Carole King) I'm Into Something Good (with Carole King) Others What Love Can Do (obviously a tribute to cousin Mike ;D) Listen To Me (Buddy Holly cover) Let's Call the Whole Thing Off (Gershwin bonus track) A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes (Disney bonus) Let's Call the Whole Thing Off (Disney bonus) Peace on Earth (Disney bonus) Walking Down The Path Of Life/ Love and Mercy (medley) The Spirit of Rock and Roll (Songs from Here & Back Version) California Feelin' Believe In Yourself Live Let Live (Arctic Tale Version) Midnight's Another Day (Demo) Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl (Demo) Heaven (Carl Wilson Cover) On Christmas Day (2000, released on the anthology cd "20 Christmas Stars III, also a download on bw.com) Little Saint Nick (new 2004 version, available on bw.com only) White Christmas (2002, available on bw.com only) Love And Mercy (2001 rerecord) Doin' The Krabby Patty (2006, Spongebob CD) Speed Turtle (written by Sandra Boyton and vocals by BW) ::) Thanks to earlier posters above for some of the info on this list. Any other tracks out there? While I'm trying to stick to songs that Brian does lead vocals on, not just his occasional backing-vocalist-for-hire work for artists like Neil Diamond and Richard Ashcroft, this is something I saw on the original thread and then heard on Youtube - Hand On My Shoulder - Anton Fig - 2002. Lead vocal by '70s Beach Boy Blondie Chaplin, drums by Ricky Fataar, bv's by BW. This is rather nice imo, it's a surprisingly little known 'reunion' between Blondie & Ricky and Brian, with Blondie giving a very Carl-like lead vocal. Never heard of this before, nice track. Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: Lowbacca on July 08, 2012, 10:01:34 AM The awesome "California Sun" cover for the Curious George 2 soundtrack (2010).

The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) released on BW.com 2008 There is also a version of Silent Night that was actually released on video by BW.com, sung mostly by Brian's children from a year or two ago. Living Doll is the actual title of the song being called "Barbie" . There was also a report that Brian was recording a song, title not mentioned , for a Paul McCartney tribute album. A McCartney tribute disc did get released, but Brian doesn't have a song on it. IIRC it was a studio recording with his band. Semi-unplugged. On the german message board we compiled a two cd-set a few years ago with all of Brian's non-album solotracks, no christmas and no backgorund vocal-ony appearances or duets. Since then "Listen to me" "Peace on earth" "A dream is a wish your heart makes" "California sun" and "Let's call the whole thing off" came out. We called it "Believe in yourself - The solo works of Brian Wilson". Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: Matt H on July 08, 2012, 11:15:50 AM Little Deuce Coupe with Brian Setzer was from around 2000.

Yeah.. and didn't they record another song, too? Can't remember.. ???Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: runnersdialzero on July 08, 2012, 02:05:08 PM Demos for the entirety of TLOS have gotten out, although obviously they weren't officially released.
Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: TV Forces on July 08, 2012, 02:38:01 PM Thanks for this list. I just picked up "Goodnight Irene," "California Sun," and "Country Feelin'" on iTunes.
Can't seem to find "Oh Mi Amor" and I'm not buying TLOS again for one track. Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: keysarsoze001 on July 08, 2012, 04:08:48 PM If you just want to hear some of these, Grooveshark is a good place to look.

Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: Matt H on July 09, 2012, 03:46:59 AM I think "Fun Fun Fun" from one of the Roxy versions is missing on this list too.
Title: Re: Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks Post by: Slow In Brain on July 09, 2012, 05:18:01 AM The Anton Fig song with Blondie is cool. Another more recent one is When Love Is Dying on Elton John/Leon Russell CD though sounds like Brian's vocals were mixed back.

It was recorded before 2000, though. So, the title of this thread is Brian's 2000-2007 non-album tracks, but many cuts listed here were on albums...just not Brian Wilson albums. Brian also recorded "In My Room" with Bill Medley and Phil Everle for Medley's 2007 "Damn Near Righteous" album. I don't know if that counts or not since it was on an album (Medley's), and it's not a solo Brian recording. There's also "Delirious Love", which was a bonus track on Neil Diamond's 2005 album, "12 Songs".
