Title: Britney & Brian? Post by: DJ M on February 25, 2008, 08:13:30 AM http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/25/business/media/25britney.html?ref=music&pagewanted=print
"For now, the people around Ms. Spears are occupied with more basic questions — about how she will live, rather than whether she might perform again. Lawyers and her parents are trying to find the appropriate middle ground between confining Ms. Spears physically and allowing her too much freedom for her own good." "This is not an easy balance to strike, said one expert on conservatorships for the infirm, Marc B. Hankin, who at one point represented Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. 'With good social support and good pharmacologists, you can help people come back to life, and a lot of people will never come back without that,' he said." Title: Re: Britney & Brian? Title: Re: Britney & Brian? Post by: donald on February 25, 2008, 08:50:55 AM Maybe Brittany could go live with Brian and Melinda.
Didn't Drew Barrimore go to live with David Crosby and Jan when she was having trouble? Stranger things have happened. Title: Re: Britney & Brian? Post by: Alex on February 25, 2008, 11:49:13 AM I think this was already mentioned by someone on the other Brian and Britney thread, but it seems the Britney has a lot more similarities to Syd Barrett than to Brian. Either way, both Brian and Syd had truckloads upon truckloads of more talent than Britney could ever dream of.

I mean....sh*t. Title: Re: Britney & Brian? Post by: endofposts on February 26, 2008, 02:51:03 PM I don't really see parallels between Brian and Britney, or Britney and Sid. Britney's problem is that she had neglectful parenting, as well as being raised to have few interests or values. There's just nothing there, she's like a vacuum. I also think that bodes less well for her longterm survival and/or happiness. Say what you will about Brian's upbringing, he was encouraged to have interests by his parents, as well as to have the usual middle-class values. In spite of the downside of Murry and Audree, they also gave him some solid things that might be the reason he's still alive and having a decent quality of life today.

Ah, thank gods for Rolling Stone, which--ever the journalistic standard of excellence--can stand aloof and judge Ms. Spears, the media and in fact all of us, the public. Yes, thank you, Rolling Stone. How old was she when they did this one? 17, maybe? (http://i.rollingstone.com/assets/rs/65/6720/images/00334230_lg.jpg) Title: Re: Britney & Brian? Post by: Sheriff John Stone on February 26, 2008, 03:26:48 PM Yeah, I don't see much of a connection between Brian and Britney either.
Britney is your typical young celebrity. She made millions and millions of dollars, and now DOESN'T HAVE TO do anything. She lost her drive (what little she might've had) and motivation, because she never has to work another day in her life. That alone can play games with your head. As messed up as Michael Jackson is, I think that's what led to his downfall. He had so much money and so few meaningful things to fill his time. And, even though Britney is a multi-millionaire celebrity, she's like every other young woman (and man) - she needs to be loved. True love. She needs a man to love, and a man that will love her. And she ain't finding him. Brian, on the other hand, apparently didn't let the money affect him when he lost it in 1967. There were a couple of other factors ahead of that. His value of the money came later. Also, I believe Brian felt loved - by Marilyn. At least I hope he did... Title: Re: Britney & Brian? As messed up as Michael Jackson is, I think that's what led to his downfall. He had so much money and so few meaningful things to fill his time. Ehhhh...sort of. Michael Jackson also dealt with abuse as a child but in addition to this, he never got to experience childhood. He was an entertainer almost as soon as he knew how to talk. I don't think he ever had the opportunity to "grow up". Britney is a similar case. She was an entertainer from the get-go; appearing on the Mickey Mouse club and wasn't she doing Star Search before that? Her pregnant teenage sister is already starting to suffer from the same problems. Adolescence is a crucial part in the development of a person and these entertainers were too busy making money for mommy and daddy to really experience it. As far as ties between Brian Wilson's mental problems and Britney's, the only connection I can make between the two is that Britney's manager allegedly had her drugged up on various medications (apparently legal and not), much like Dr. Landy was doing the same for Brian.
