So cool.... There will also be a soundtrack: http://www.rollingstones.com/news/ (http://www.rollingstones.com/news/) Title: Re: Rolling Stones - Shine a light Post by: Daniel S. on February 15, 2008, 06:25:57 PM Is this a documentary about one concert or does it cover the Stones' whole career?
Title: Re: Rolling Stones - Shine a light Post by: Rocker on February 17, 2008, 08:32:48 AM I believe it as shot diring two concerts. It may have some older stuff in it but probably more interviews than appearances, but I don't know
Title: Re: Rolling Stones - Shine a light Post by: Beach Boy on February 18, 2008, 11:17:41 AM Nope, just concert footage with very little backstage insight at the beginning.
Title: Re: Rolling Stones - Shine a light Post by: MBE on February 19, 2008, 01:10:52 AM Thought it was supposed to have archive footage. I don't really like them past the 70's though Vodoo Lounge and Bigger Bang are ok. I am a Brian Jones guy really.
Title: Re: Rolling Stones - Shine a light Post by: Aegir on February 20, 2008, 02:37:14 PM Whatever, it's bound to have tons of Blondie Chaplin footage.

I didn't listen to ABB yet, but "Bridges to Babylon" is quite nice, though the lyrics aren't so. And "Tattoo You" is great! After that, they went real bad. If you have a problem with the lyrics on Bridges to Babylon, then you probably will also dislike them on A Bigger Bang. They are awful! Musically, ABB is top notch but the lyrics leave something to be desired in a big way. Title: Re: Rolling Stones - Shine a light Post by: donald on April 04, 2008, 09:00:51 AM I thought Voodoo Lounge was a good effort. Everything after that has been disappointing.
The movie sounds interesting in that you get to appreciate both Scorcese and the Stones. The reviews have been mixed. I hear the first half is entertaining and the rest drags a bit Title: Re: Rolling Stones - Shine a light Post by: Rocker on April 07, 2008, 05:09:52 AM I just saw the movie. It is very, very good. Not fantastic, but really cool. Everyone should watch that one. Only dissapointment for me was Jack White. That guy sucks. Everything else is great.
There are some vintage-interviews but it really focuses on the show and music. Re ABB and BTB: I like some of "A bigger bang" but except for two or three songs "Bridges to Babylon" sucks big time imo. A few days ago I'd read that Mick and Keith plan to write new songs and head to the studio with the Stones this year. Don't know if it will happen but I am looking forward to it Title: Re: Rolling Stones - Shine a light Post by: donald on April 07, 2008, 06:53:39 AM I saw this Saturday. Very cool. My interest in the Stones has waned in recent years but this was FUN.
Highlights for me were: Mick and Keith alone at center stage doing As Tears Go By. Believe it or not, I found it very touching, and even poignant. Another highlight was Christine Aguilera and Mick doing a duet. HOT AND ROCKIN! I could play the critic here but won't. Just go see the damn thing. I'm quite sure that all but the most hardened souls will find it worthwhile and great entertainment. Keith Richards himself said that BTB was a good effort. :police: Well, I saw that movie on Thursday. I went with my sister who isn't a Stones fan, she loves the Beach Boys. :p In lower Austria the movie wasn't shown. >:( So we had to drive to Vienna, and I hate Vienna. In the cinema they were, with us, only 3 people. The intro was way too long, and after 2 songs always a break was kinda distracting. Anyway the interviews were sometimes good. :) Jumpin Jack Flash is a great concert opener, Keith with his cool 70's black fender, which I am going to buy this sommer, was nice to see again. Shattered and She Was Hot are songs that I really love and it was gread too hear those rarities. First I thought they are going to play the whole Some Girls album. :lol The guest stars weren't that bad like they usually are. In my opinion there was just too many unknown songs, that doesn't bother me ('cause I know and like them all) but I can imagine it did bother my sister. Though they played all standard songs:JJF, Brown Sugar, Tumlin' Dice, Satisfaction and Start Me Up, the last one didn't come that well over. I was surprised not too see Honky Tonk Women and You Can't Always Get What You Want. Sadly they cut Little T & A out. :( I like their club gigs way more then the big stadium concerts, so that was a big plus too. :) Charlie was in good form and the other guys too (besides Keith on "Start Me Up" as I mentioned before). But the cams just showed mostly Mick and sometimes Lisa Fisher. ;) Loved it when Keith laughed at one point into the microphone. Overall not a bad movie, better then Live At Max but can't compete with Let's Spend The Night Together. Having said that, I would still recommend the movie. It stands on its own. One point of interest that is relevant on this board: Blondie seemed relegated to the far sidelines and didn't appear to be contributing a whole lot. He may have been contributing more than the band wants to publicly show. Do any of you know his role in the band? I would think that someone of his talent and stature would be more of a key figure. Backing vocals, percussion and accoustic guitar afaik. I believe all that is seen in "Shine a light". He played piano on BTB iirc. Dunno about ABB. I agree that the other background singers get more "publicity" Title: Re: Rolling Stones - Shine a light Post by: Christian on April 15, 2008, 11:07:57 AM He played piano on BTB piano on "How Can I Stop" and "Too Tight", bass on "Low Down" Dunno about ABB backing vocals only on ABB |
