Title: Al's California
Post by: Smilin Ed H on January 29, 2006, 09:12:25 AM
When was the version on the ESQ CD recorded?

I have 98 as the date, but I read on this board somewhere that it was meant as a demo for the country album...

Did he record more stuff like this?  What an album it would make!

Yeah, it as a demo for Merle Haggard for the country-album. Great version. Could have been a great album if they would've done it well....

I may be remembering wrong, but I thought it was recorded in 1996, around the same time the Stars & Stripes material was being recorded.  It made its first appearance on the Endless Harmony documentary, I think.

Good vibes,
Eric

yeah, i believe it was as well, that should have really been on S&S....
there were other tunes that "could" have done country that would have sounded fine...
brian's cut of Let's Stick Together coulda made it with it's country vibe...lol...i dont know if LST had the same backing track that it had on GIOMH

I haven't heard it, but I can't imagine what any version would be like without Brian's lead vocal on the first line. That completely makes the song for me (that and those Beach Boys harmonies!).
