Title: "River Song" drums
Post by: carl r on December 13, 2007, 07:16:51 AM
Sorry if this has been asked before  :)

The drums on "River Song" sound different to the usual BB style ...  even seems like a backbeat -

This gives the song a heavier edge than is present on most BB tracks... maybe more like "You Need a Mess of Help..."

I'm wondering: was this Dennis? (on both occasions)

And if so, how could he have handled the increasingly tinny-sounding Beach Boys of the early 80s ?  (perhaps a rhetorical question)

...poor Dennis.

As the first recordings on this song started in 1973, and the backingtrack (+several bv's) was used for the 1977 solo version I strongly suspect Ricky Fataar being the drummer. The fact that Ricky is mentioned as one of the musicians would confirm that.

Yeah its Ricky. However Dennis was the one that was going for a harder edged feel than the BB's are known for. He continued on that path with many of the POB/Bamboo era tracks.
