Title: Smithereens Cnristmas Album: Beach Boys influence
Post by: Competition Clutch on December 09, 2007, 12:20:52 PM
They do a cover of Merry Christmas, Baby.  Lead Vocal by Dennis Diken.  I like the guitars on this track and the Smithereens' harmonic style.

An original song Christmas(I Remember) - lead vocal by Diken - features a lyric that references the albums, "Shut Down, Volume 2, and Rubber Soul."
David Marks plays guitar on this.

On the cover of Run Rudolph Run, I was disappointed in the lyric change from "Away went Rudolph whizzing like a Sabre Jet," to "private jet."   "Sabre Jet" is a great lyric which plants the song firmly in the 1950s.    I thought the retro appeal outweighed any need to update the lyric.

The album is highly recommended.

The album also features ex-A.M. Chaos Band member Severo Jornacion on bass!  Highly recommended.
