Title: A number of updates to Gigs/sessions at Bellagio... Post by: Ian on December 07, 2007, 11:19:46 AM For those who like this stuff- if you have only visited the Gig/sessions section of Bellagio (AGD's site) once- you may not be aware that it is continually updated. After pouring thru old magazines, emailing colleges, etc- I have added a lot of shows. Some new updates are

Thanks for all your efforts, guys. Title: Re: A number of updates to Gigs/sessions at Bellagio... Post by: mikeyj on December 07, 2007, 07:37:19 PM Thanks for putting in all this hard work Ian. It's amazing!! And I know it's something that a lot of fans (me atleast) would like to have done accurately but either A) don't have access to a lot of this info (since I live in Australia) and B) couldn't be bothered to do the research. So thanks so much!! :)
By the way Ian, I don't have the book on hand with me (as a friend of mine is currently borrowing it) but have you noticed the glaring error I think on September 3 of two of the years. I can't remember the years but say it's 1973 it says "this is the final concert of the 30 day tour" but then in 1974 it says the exact same thing for September 3, just worded differently. I know it's obviously a mistake but still to make a mistake of that size I thought was pretty poor. Title: Re: A number of updates to Gigs/sessions at Bellagio... Post by: Andrew G. Doe on December 08, 2007, 01:14:31 AM Such is Ian's modesty that he neglects to mention that as a result of his tireless research, he pinned down the exact date of the session for the bvs to "Wishing You Were Here".
The errors in the Badman book became even more obvious as we were preparing the pages for 10452. When you type the exact same sequence of five shows in the east twice within two months, it's a pretty good guess that something's amiss. Hence the asterisks - if a show is starred, it means that either the date or the venue (or both) was wrong (or may have the support act added)... or is a totally new addition. If a show in Badman doesn't appear on our list, chances are it didn't happen. Most notable among this is the mythical 40-date midwestern summer tour in 1962 - never happened, inf act the band didn't play outside California until early 1963. Ian & I are considering presenting the info on the gigs pages in printed (and expanded) form at some time in the indeterminate future. Any takers ? If you mean "gigs and sessions", I'm a taker as well! Title: Re: A number of updates to Gigs/sessions at Bellagio... Yeah I've seen you mention that error a few times. That myth started a long time before Badman though didn't it? I mean it's in books etc... It's amazing how so many of those old books and movies and so on, have started so many myths and now everybody seems to believe it as fact. I know there probably wasn't as much information available back when some of the books were written (eg: a lack of session sheets etc..) but it's really frustrating when people write in articles "The Beach Boys never played on their own records" and I also get frustrated when people like Mr. Priore start myths like "The Survivors sung on the Surfer Girl album"... and what's his evidence for that? I'm guessing he has none. I can understand if somebody makes a minor mistake that doesn't really matter (eg: a type-o) but when somebody starts a myth which is not based on any fact, just purely speculation it can be so unhelpful!! Anyway, enough of me rambling on... Title: Re: A number of updates to Gigs/sessions at Bellagio... Post by: Bicyclerider on December 08, 2007, 02:22:21 PM Yes - Andrew, expand the sessions and gigs into book form! If you write it, it will sell!
