Title: brian on howard stern
Post by: sherryluvsbrian on November 28, 2007, 01:34:57 AM
Can anyone tell me about the interview Brian had with Howard Stern awhile back, I heard It's funny.

It was from 1988. The best part is when Howard askes Brian if he's slept with Joni Mitchell. Brian starts screaming but he's laugingly screaming.

He was on a second time-in the 90s- after Stern had started filming his show for the E network- I believe it was 1998.

Dates were Feb 22 1992 and April 24 1999- these were both televised interviews with Stern. There may have been a radio only interview in 1988 at the time of the solo album. Brian also was interviewed by Stern backstage at the American Music Awards (I think that was the awards show-Stern had a booth at the show and did brief interviews with all the guests backstage-possibly in 1995-when Brian presented with Don Was)

Mike was also interviewed once by Stern.
As well as Carnie and Wendy (or maybe just Carnie...)

I did not hear this particular interview, but Howard has always been a BW fan and knows much more BB history than a causal fan would be expected to have.

And.....thanks Mr Lapage for allowing me to join the team!

I'm not sure I've heard Brian so candid and open as he is during this 30+ minute discussion since before the Landy days.  Howard doesn't exactly keep it to simple subjects either.  Brian even cracked a little humor here and there.  He seemed less hesitant, although he admits he's nervous.  Anyone know if he went into Howard's studio alone?  It sounds as though he did.  Great interview.

Another funny incident is when Howard is talking to Brian about Carnie and Wendy and they tell the story about where Landy wanted Brian to go up to people and introduce himself and he ended up introducing himself to Carnie accidentally. And then Stern goes "well at least you didn't try to feel her up, right?" And Brian goes "No, jeez!" in a really funny way.

That interview is Hilarious!!!  Since Howard went over to Sirius Radio I've forgotten just how good he is as an interviewer. And this interview w/Brian from 1998 was Stern at the pinnacle of his career following his movie "Private Parts" in 1997.
Brian loosens up as the interview progresses and seems much more relaxed.

"Did you go to his funeral?"
"No I didn't."
"Good."

That sums up the world's opinion of Murry. :-P

What is that movie they are talking about, where 2 guys took Brian out to the water? It's 37:05 in the interview.

It is from the "It's OK" Special from 1976.  It is also shown in The Beach Boys American Band video.  The 2 people are Dan Ackroyd & John Beloshi.

Yeah, that's the clip.

Brian's really into the interview - I know people like to say "Howard's a dick" and stuff, but when the person's really into the interview like Brian was, or Paul McCartney always is, you really see that he's not trying to be a dick at all.  It's just his sense of humor, and every now and then someone is tuned into that.

But damn, anyone wanna hit the "what's wrong with his voice" guy?  Christ.

I'd also be interested in hearing one or both of the interviews. Those damn yousendit links always void themselves too soon.

Howard can always get people to open up on his show somehow. Good stuff most of the time.

If Howard can interview Brian and speak to him like a regular guy why does just about every other interviewer seem to treat him like the grandfather in the home with Alzheimer's?

Tell us more about how you wrote surf songs but didn't like surfing, grandpa!

Someone here said that someone on the Hoffman board said Brian was going to be on the show again.  That was back in September.  Do we know any more about this?  Although I suppose if it hasn't happened yet, it's not going to happen at all at this point.

It was supposed to happen around the original release date for the new album...Howard and Gary heavily promoted it.  I assume that it didn't happen because the album release got pushed into 2015.

Great interview. Love the way Stern is totally unconvinced by Brian's protestations that Landy is on the level. And the end made me giggle 'just imagine if you die, Brian, and God looks just like Mike Love. God with a baseball cap!'

Brian is still listed as "coming soon" on a semi-official Stern website. Perez Hilton was also listed last time I checked, and he ended up popping up a few days ago. There's still hope I think! Would be incredible.

"Give Mike Love some money. Give the guy $2 million bucks to put in the bank right now..."
