Title: Ricky Fataar/Stig O'Hara
Post by: No. Fourteen on November 12, 2007, 06:50:08 AM
Watched the fantastic Beatles parody The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash this weekend.  Got me wondering,
how did Ricky Fataar (who plays the "George" character, Stig O'Hara) become involved with the project?

I've thought about that too. Perhaps they heard the Flame album. Pretty Beatles like.

I just contacted the owner of the Flame website. I mean, if you look at his website (http://www.the-flames.com/), he should know, shouldn’t he. But he’s not sure. He just mentions that he believes Eric Idle and Ricky just met at the beach. That figures….

Yeah, I had checked out that website.  Met at the beach?  Perfect!  Ricky is great in the film, and doesn't have any lines!

Overall, the only minor hang-up I have is that Eric Idle isn't even close miming the bass-playing during performance sequences.

According to an article on Neil ("Ron Nasty") Innes' website, Al Jardine was invited to appear in The Rutles' "Shangri-La" video back in '96. Upon seeing Ricky Fataar in a Beatle wig on set, Jardine reportedly remarked "I didn't know you were a Rutle!" Whether Jardine was making a joke or simply wasn't aware of Fataar's involvement was not clarified.
