Title: Brian & Carl's "Won't You Tell Me" recording date?
Post by: audiodrome on November 01, 2007, 07:55:27 PM
Sorry for all these questions, but I'm trying to find the recording dates for a bunch of songs. I have a date of 8/71, but I've also seen 1969 as the date.

I was looking for the recording date for Brian & Carl's "Won't You Tell Me." Somehow, my subject title got cut off when I first posted the message.

According to AGD's site (http://www.btinternet.com/~bellagio/gigs71.html) It lists the session as June 19, 1971... of course there may well be other sessions for it too though.

Thanks! I was looking at that site all night last night. I must have been going blind and missed it.

Is it possible that this is a follow-up session?

Here's a description from a "All This Is That" CD review:

"Pleasant surprises include the Association-like "Won't You Tell Me" from 1969, with its creamy harmonies and lush production work worth hearing more than once."

Interesting, as according to the Rick Henn/Sunrays session notes, the original tracking session for this - overseen by Rick Henn & Dennis - was 24 August 1971 - then Brian & Carl's attempted overdubs must have been done sometime afterwards ... ???

My source for the date of June 19th 1971 is from someone whose research, and sources, I trust implicitly.

They wouldn't be the first bootleggers to get a date wrong.

Those would be the same liners that identified a 1993 rehersal of "All This Is That" as an alternate 1972 studio version, then.  ::)
