Title: Ronnie Dannelley: thanx for the eye- and EarCandy 1999-2007
Post by: rasmus skotte on October 18, 2007, 02:43:25 AM
Is it really true that earcandymag.com is up for sale (Jerry Boyd on the blueboard 10/14th)?
If so - can anyone in our network intervene so that this unique Beach Boys-related database/knowledge bank/search
machine won't be lost?
No doubt it must have been extremely hard work for Ron not only maintaining but also to renew the internet mag
month after month besides minding his other obligations.
I feel Ronnie is one of the unsung heroes in Beach Boys fandom and that his Ear Candy mag has been generally under-
appreciated like so many one-man operations you could think of in this field :
Chris Allen's 'Open Sky' mag/videos
Stephen McParland's books
Brian Davies' 20/20 mag
Bill Tobelman's web sites
John P's Pet Sounds Shop
Andy O'Brien's plymouth mag
- and many more like that
Luckily there are other operators who get full credits for their work.
When I and DAFTfilm had our SMiLE films to promote in 2004 we had no idea of how to go about it. I then followed my
hunch to visit Ronnie's 'Atlanta SMiLE Gathering'. I found him to be the most helpful allied I could have dreamed for!
A few months later he even volunteered to design our homepage/website from scratch!

MAY EARCANDYMAG.COM SURVIVE

I dig Earcandy. I hope it carries on.

It's true:

http://www.earcandymag.com/ec-forsale.htm

And it's a crying shame.

Let's keep Ronnie and his wife in our prayers.

HOWEVER

I read this here moments ago:

Quote
So, our wonderful, brilliant friend Ronnie has graciously trusted me with the temporary reins of the vaunted, venerable institution known as Earcandy. And I am planning to take it seriously, and establish the greatest online music zine (which it already was, but, ya know, let's make it even more so). -- Ian Wagner

So EC is not quite down for the count yet.
