http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/ConcertDetail.aspx?id=20049683|7141&utm_source=NL&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=071017 Pretty interesting that they play Shortenin Bread, Roller Skating Child & Peggy Sue The review below is pretty funny too: "Dr. Elliott Landry, the controversial psychiatrist" Title: Re: The Beach Boys - Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY - 05/14/1979 Post by: kshane on October 17, 2007, 05:15:13 PM I thought it was of more interest that they listed Carl as playing bass. It's a pretty good sounding show though.

Well I've never heard of them playing Shortenin' Bread live.. I'm sure they did on other occassions but I never knew they played that in concert. Peggy Sue wasn't really played that often either I don't think. It's not so much the fact that they NEVER played songs of their recent albums around this era, It's just that those particular songs are of interest (which is what I said in my original post) Title: Re: The Beach Boys - Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY - 05/14/1979 Post by: MBE on October 18, 2007, 12:29:03 AM This show is on a great vinyl boot called Surfer's Nightmare

Is Brian actually screaming "a fight!" or rather "oh f*ck!" in the first lines of Sloop John B? Not that it matters... His voice however sounds a lot smoother than on the Knebworth recording, kind of sweet even. Roller Skating Child, while not quite as energetic as the Love You recording, is a blast. Arguably one of those Beach Boys tunes bordering on the bizarre, it's also one of my very favorites. "My family, the Beach Boys". Now that would have been a great "fly on the wall" moment to witness backstage. :lol

Some firecrackers go off (during "Sloop" if I remember right), and you can hear Al respond off-mic with somehting like "Oh, I'm scared!". The "Oh f**k" might be related to that.
And, when I saw them for the first time later that year, they did "Shortenin' Bread" and "Roller Skating Child" as well as three other cuts from the "L.A." album.
