Title: Landy's Background vocals Post by: punkinhead on January 26, 2006, 09:10:51 PM what has Landy done on BW 88 or Sweet Insanity or BB 85 vocally?
Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: Jason on January 27, 2006, 03:16:40 PM There was a rumor he did some backing vocals on the self-titled and Sweet Insanity albums, but if he's there, he's buried under all the Brians in the mix.
Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: NimrodsSon on January 27, 2006, 05:39:10 PM I believe it says in the liner notes which songs he sang on on BW88, but I can't help you figure out which voice is his.
Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: ♩♬🐸 Billy C ♯♫♩🐇 on January 27, 2006, 07:28:49 PM Actually, it doesn't say which songs. I personally always thought his sole contribution was the "all aboard" on Rio Grande, but that very well might be Paley.
Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: I. Spaceman on January 27, 2006, 08:03:41 PM He says "Metal beach" on Metal Beach.
Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: punkinhead on January 27, 2006, 11:47:19 PM havnt heard metal beach, what's the story there? is there a shortenin' bread riff in it?
Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: I. Spaceman on January 28, 2006, 03:51:56 PM It's a Brian-Landy-Dick Dale-Steve Vai collaboration from Paul Shaffer's Coast To Coast. Very cool.

Are you joking about this? Vai meets Brian meets who-the-f*ck-ever...ahHAHAHAHHAHHA. Gimme. Please. Not that I'm asking. Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: ♩♬🐸 Billy C ♯♫♩🐇 on January 28, 2006, 08:23:02 PM No...it's a real song. And yes, that is the same Paul Shaffer as on David Letterman's television program.
Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: Wirestone on January 28, 2006, 08:35:51 PM It's really the ultimate Shortnin' Bread song. It takes the riff deeper and harder than any other tune by Brian, because there's essentially nothing else on it except for the riff.
It features: Brian (keyboards and vocals) Paul Shaeffer (ditto) Landy (on the title words) Mick Fleetwood (on high-hat cymbal, I think I remember) Steve Douglas (Brian's sax-man from the 60s) Dick Dale and Steve Vai on surf (ish) guitars I'm pretty sure there's a third guitarist on it, someone 70s-ish. Joe Walsh, maybe? I actually love this track. Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: PMcC on January 28, 2006, 09:06:30 PM I love this track, too. Anybody who has more info on "Metal Beach", please pass it along......
Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: punkinhead on January 28, 2006, 09:15:37 PM the only thing that i could find that hasnt been mentioned is that it's on Sweeter Insanity
Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: Andrew G. Doe on January 29, 2006, 08:31:33 AM Actually, it doesn't say which songs. I personally always thought his sole contribution was the "all aboard" on Rio Grande, but that very well might be Paley. Actually, it does - "Rio Grande". I hazard a guess at the 'campfire' sequence. Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: harveyw on January 30, 2006, 01:13:56 AM I may be wrong, but I've always thought it was him doing the bass "Night Blooming Jasmine..." section .
Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: ♩♬🐸 Billy C ♯♫♩🐇 on January 30, 2006, 06:02:16 AM I *think* that was Paley.

What'd you mean by campfire sequence on Rio Grande? Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: Andrew G. Doe on November 15, 2010, 04:23:22 AM Actually, it doesn't say which songs. What'd you mean by campfire sequence on Rio Grande? The bit that sounds seriously like the Fire Music. I could swear that I read somewhere - maybe in the press kit? - that Landy sang the "Big Big Sky, Indian" part on there. Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: adamghost on November 15, 2010, 12:53:52 PM I remember the same thing, Brian saying Landy sang something on "Rio Grande."
Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: ♩♬🐸 Billy C ♯♫♩🐇 on November 15, 2010, 11:53:02 PM Has to be that part, as that sure as hell wasn't Brian.

Yeah...it's too "Murry-like", which is appropriate for Landy! Title: Re: Landy's Background vocals Post by: JaredLekites on November 16, 2010, 07:35:25 AM I may be wrong, but I've always thought it was him doing the bass "Night Blooming Jasmine..." section . After comparing it to the demo on the 2001 reissue of Brian Wilson, I have to say that bit sounds like Brian to me. |
