Even the outro! :afro Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: SloopJohnB on October 03, 2007, 10:33:50 AM I can't answer that one... There would be too many of them. The Beach Boys (and more particularly Brian) were the masters of the outros! :)
Edit: actually Surf's Up is above all the others. Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: pendletone on October 03, 2007, 10:43:33 AM Feel Flows

This could be a very very long list.... Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: Wilsonista on October 03, 2007, 03:29:43 PM The Kings of the Tags!

Wind Chimes (Smiley Smile). One of Brian's most gorgeous vocal sections...and yeah, I know that's saying a lot! Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: Jonas on October 03, 2007, 07:33:01 PM Funky Pretty hands down is the best thing ever.
God Only Knows is tied with it in first place, followed by Marcella. Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: MBE on October 03, 2007, 10:53:41 PM Forever has a nice fade

.... CELEBRATE THE NEWS!!!! Love Surrounds Me Til I Die When I Grow Up(To Be A Man) Marcella seems all my favorites have already been mentioned. Phooey. Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: Beach Boy on October 04, 2007, 06:52:14 AM All I Want to Do ;D :lol Songs not listed: SIP (UK version) Make It Big Kona Coast (the "Hawaii" section) Goin' On Spirit Of Rock And Roll (a capella tag, beautiful!) Getcha Back Lady Lynda (awesome!! I know it's not exactly from the Beach Boys) Hushabye Brian's Back (aka You Still Believe In Me ;D ) Does "Endless Harmony" count? Cause the line which I mean is 1 minute long. Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: busy doin nothin on October 04, 2007, 10:00:32 AM Surf's Up (1971) is the best outro/fade of all time, by any act ever.
ADITLOAT is close behind. God Only Knows is also incredible. The California Girls fade gives me chills -- the group never sounded better and I love "girls, girls, girls, yeah, I dig the girls" Let's Go Away for a While Brian's vocal on Getcha Back fade gives me goose bumps, not because of the greatness of the song, but because it's Brian It's OK (Denny's "find a ride") Santa Ana Winds with Brian wailing on the harmonica She's Got Rhythm ("never will forget her") Hey Little Tomboy (the little solo at the fade) My Diane Matchpoint of Our Love Love Surrounds Me Baby Blue This Whole World All I Wanna Do Lookin' At Tomorrow I am very surprised "Don't Go Near the Water" hasn't been mentioned more. Those 35 seconds are possibly the pinnacle of Carl Wilson's career as producer, which is really saying something. The last minute of Long Promised Road never fails to give chills, even after 1000s of listens. From POB, I have to mention: Moonshine Thoughts of You Time Rainbows End of the Show Also, Sweet Mountain, Surfin' Down the Swanee River, Guess I'm Dumb, and a bunch of songs from the Flame album: Make It Easy Lady Don't Worry Bill Get Your Mind Made Up Another Day Like Heaven Obviously I could go on and on . . . Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: mikeyj on October 04, 2007, 07:17:08 PM I am very surprised "Don't Go Near the Water" hasn't been mentioned more. Those 35 seconds are possibly the pinnacle of Carl Wilson's career as producer, which is really saying something. I am pretty sure it has been mentioned before earlier in the thread Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: MBE on October 04, 2007, 08:58:12 PM Well, I know I'D like to hear them! ::) Dennis would have liked you lol Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: gsmile on October 06, 2007, 11:23:22 PM I gotta go with "Matchpoint of Our Love" for outros...something about it just makes the whole song for me. I mean, it's still a good song, but that outro, MAN, I wish it would go on for at least a minute more. I love when the chimes kick in with the descending guitar lick. "All I Wanna" do is fantastic too...those out of time delayed vocals locking in with the fuzz bass just sends me over the edge.
Can "Ding Dang" be an intro AND an outro? ;D Oh Oh! And I can't believe no one's mentioned the Wilson/Paley version of "Gettin' In Over My Head"! Proof that Brian still has it. Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: Fun Is In on October 07, 2007, 06:26:52 AM The intro and outro on Lady Lynda are kind of memorable. :-D
The wood shop tools pasted into Do It Again always worked for me. Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: Sheriff John Stone on October 07, 2007, 06:35:38 AM I gotta go with "Matchpoint of Our Love" for outros...something about it just makes the whole song for me. I mean, it's still a good song, but that outro, MAN, I wish it would go on for at least a minute more. I love when the chimes kick in with the descending guitar lick. I noted this one also...maybe Brian's best vocal post-Sunflower. I remember listening to this track when MIU came out in 1978. Think how Brian diehards felt, after hearing Brian sing on 15 Big Ones and Love You, then being bowled over by the clean, clear vocal on "Matchpoint". And, then he closed the album with the equally great falsetto of "won't last forever" on "Winds Of Change". I really thought he was all the way back... Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: thomasogg on October 19, 2007, 06:04:27 PM It's a three way draw between 'Til I Die', 'Surf's Up' and 'Celebrate the News'. Maybe i'd go for 'Surf's Up', when those vocals burst first kick in - wow, it doesn't get much better than that! Although the ending to 'Celebrate..' is pretty spectacular! A very undervalued tune - and it was a B-side?! How damn good can a band be to toss off a great song like that as a B-side.... Oh wait, i just thought of another: 'Funky Pretty'. The whole song seems to just build and build to that amazing fade with all those inter-twining vocals and melodies.
Title: Re: Best outros/fade-outs Post by: Sheriff John Stone on October 19, 2007, 09:09:23 PM All of the above plus my fav....Our Prayer.. Good one! Which, of course, reminds me of the great a capella ending to "We Three Kings". Yes, it's time to get out the Christmas music. :police: |
