Title: Re: Brian and Spector Post by: SloopJohnB on September 07, 2007, 07:40:44 AM I think Melcher was referring to Spector's layering technique. He was saying that Spector layered the sounds with "anger", "brutally" (or "heavily", to use one of your terms), whereas Brian would do it "in a delicate way". Which I think is quite true. :)
That said, both techniques are interesting and have produced magnificent results! ...And may I suggest a more restrictive use of the suspension points, and a less restrictive use of paragraphs? :-D Title: Re: Brian and Spector Post by: Rocker on September 07, 2007, 07:57:13 AM Yes, i think Melcher meant that Spector had a much harder rocking sound, to which I agree and I believe Brian himself said something to that effect too. Brian was very much for harmony and did a beautiful sound but Spector just had that rock and roll-thing (Brian too but not that hard imo)
Title: Re: Brian and Spector Post by: donald on September 07, 2007, 08:06:05 AM I remember that Melcher Interview. Maybe Terry was referring to the differing personalities of Braian and Spector and what those personalities brought to the music. Phil brought his Napoleonic persona to the studio. Brian brough his bruised little boy persona into the mix.
