Title: My discography - latest revision here!
Post by: TheLazenby on June 23, 2007, 08:43:21 PM
This is the latest revision of my Beach Boys discography.  (I'll post further revisions in this same thread.)

As usual, comments and questions (and especially albums I missed) are appreciated!

Incidentally, if anyone's wondering if I'm going to include Glen Campbell in the "solo albums" at one point, the answer is a very large NO.  The discography would double in length (and then some), all for a guy who never appeared on a Beach Boys album AS a Beach Boy.  (He did session work for "Pet Sounds", but that's not grounds for inclusion... he's not important enough.)  Because I feel like if I start getting into 'live-only' Beach Boys, then I'd have to hunt down the recordings of the phony Beach Boys in Mike Love's cheesy touring bands, and that's not worth the trouble, because who cares?  :)

A nice listing, tho' it would have been a bonus to see exact release dates and songwriters - but, hey, that may be asking a little too much of you !  ;D
One small point is that David Marks 'Live At The Blue Dolphin' isn't really a 'live' album as such. It wasn't performed before an audience ... it was just a band set-up at the Blue Dolphin recording studios, with a few silent onlookers, that was captured on tape.

Quote
LEI'D IN HAWAII
A live album that was never released, nor finished.  The following tracklist seems to be the most likely; two concerts were recorded, but the following concert (Aug. 25, 1967) was the only show with usable-quality material.

That's not entirely true: the Aug. 26 show is often considered as being better, sound-wise... And the performances themselves do not differ that much between the two shows.

Edit: why not include "The Legendary Masked Surfers"? Agreed, it's been released as a "Jan & Dean" disc, but it features Brian, Mike and Bruce, as well as the Honeys and many "touring members" of the Beach Boys...

Well, Andrew Doe's site appears to differ with you on the "Hawaii" thing; according to that one, the quality of the 26th is pretty poor.

I'll include the Masked Surfers album if you can supply info - date, tracklist, etc.  (I'm assuming that's an album of new material, and not a compilation?)

To my ears, the show from the 26th is as good (or as poor) as the one from the 25th... But it doesn't really matter.

About the Legendary Masked Surfers:

Thanks!  I'll add that to the next revision.
