Title: For comment and criticism: a new recording Post by: the captain on June 17, 2007, 10:31:09 AM http://download.yousendit.com/1073E74879194A8D
I recorded this yesterday, except the drums (which were done Thursday). I do welcome any comments or criticism here. The song is called "Half Past One," and this is only a rough mix. EDIT: P.S., I won't be a bitch about criticism. Promise. Title: Re: For comment and criticism: a new recording Post by: matt-zeus on June 21, 2007, 08:57:03 AM Great song, nice production, sort of a Macca feel, but the organ takes it into Brian terrotory. Reminds me also a bit of a band I hear d afew years ago called June and the Exit Wounds.
Title: Re: For comment and criticism: a new recording Post by: matt-zeus on June 21, 2007, 08:58:07 AM I like the other new one too, reminds me of the Kinks for some reason, and you have a nice voice, its a bit feminine sounding, but in a good way!

Reminds me also a bit of a band I hear d afew years ago called June and the Exit Wounds. Thanks, I definitely know what you mean by Macca and BW. Usually I don't go far that route, but on this one I didn't shy away (as the descending bass makes obvious). And as for the feminine vocal, no offense taken there at all. I don't mind that. (My lisp doesn't help, I guess.) Besides, my favorite singers are BW, Carl W and Freddie Mercury, so to me it's a compliment. My favourite singers too! I love Freddies early vocals on the first few Queen albums. I prefer the way that he sings using falsetto as opposed to later on in the 80s when he would sing projecting with the chest voice instead. Obviously he was still a great singer but the subtlety was lost a bit to my ears, his version of 'I can hear music' trumps the Beach Boys version in my opinion! Title: Re: For comment and criticism: a new recording Post by: richardsnow on June 22, 2007, 03:50:23 AM I've never heard Freddie's version, you got an mp3 matt?
Title: Re: For comment and criticism: a new recording Post by: matt-zeus on June 22, 2007, 04:17:39 AM Well it's sort of an early Queen recording but under a different name - Larry Lurex. Brian May and Roger Taylor are on it as well, the B side was Goin Back - The Goffin-King song which also is really lovely. Send me a PM with your email address in it, and i'll see what I can do when I get home from work! :)
