Title: Re: listen to brians new song Post by: Awesoman on May 27, 2007, 10:30:28 PM Agreed. It IS a great song, though. It sounds more Burt than Brian. I wonder exactly what part of this song Brian wrote? Title: Re: listen to brians new song Post by: Andrew G. Doe on May 27, 2007, 11:31:58 PM Agreed. It IS a great song, though. The bit that sounds like "Shortenin' Bread". 8) Title: Re: listen to brians new song Post by: mike8902 on May 28, 2007, 02:04:36 AM I think the way they compose music is very similar so it's hard to tell who wrote what. I think the bridge sounds a little more bacharach than brian. The is it true is it youu part sounds like brian more than burt.

With only twelve tones in western music to work with, you can change any pop melody slightly and get something else. Title: Re: listen to brians new song Post by: the captain on May 29, 2007, 01:35:03 PM LOL.
If I'm not mistaken there was a funny SNL skit in the mid-to-late 90s mocking Aerosmith's string of virtually identical-sounding hits. I think it was a faux commercial advertising a best-of, and they just kept the backing track playing while switching lyrics. Cryin, Crazy, Amazing, or whatever else. There also used to be (still is?) a website that played two Nickelback hits simultaneously...and they fit pretty much perfectly. Same tempo, same key, same general changes...sad. And funny. Title: Re: listen to brians new song Post by: Andrew G. Doe on May 30, 2007, 03:04:51 AM Every once in a while, Alan Boyd threatens to record a "Shortenin' Bread" medley. I'd pay good money to hear that.

That's a lame copout! That's a lame copout! It's also a fact. Call it what you will. But you can slightly rearrange any melody and get another one. The trick to arranging music to sound otherwise is by combining other aspects in inventive ways. Goddammit, I can't believe Ni***lback have even been mentioned on these boards, what an atrocity!! Seriously though, if there was a top ten worst bands of all time, Nickelback would be in there, I can't believe that music like that is still here, the sort of corporate grunge that would have sounded bad back in 1993. I saw that Chad Kroeger on the TV, what a humourless man he was.... :police: |
