Title: Brians favourite songs and albums
Post by: mikeyj on May 24, 2007, 03:24:58 AM
I am interested in knowing what albums and what songs Brian has called his "favourites" at one time or another. The reason I ask is because it always seems hes changing his mind. From memory he has mentioned Friends, Love You, and maby even Holland as his favourites but what other albums and songs has he mentioned as his favourites?

I know he really lliked Randy Newman's Sail Away album....because it inspired him to do Mt. Vernon and Fairway

and there's a pic of Brian holding, i think Spector's Christmas album (obvious choice for him), and I think Dark Side of the Moon is laying there in that pic too, even though i've never heard what he thought of it...im sure it blew his mind at the time...and possibly the Let it Be album is in the pic too, i can't remember

In Endless Harmony he says "Love You" is his favorite album that they ever did. In the box set liner notes (I think?) he said that PS is his best work, but Friends is his favorite album.

I think he has called both California Girls and Let's Go Away (any others?) the most satisfying pieces of music he ever made.

I heard an interview once, years ago, where Brian said "Holland" was his favorite BB album (at the time).

It seems Brian is pretty crazy about "Back Home."

He has said it is his best work, and seemed to agree with Carol Kaye when, in the Beautiful Dreamer doc, she said it was his best work.

On the other hand, I think a person could get Brian to agree with pretty much anything if it means that they'll quit talking to him.

Well, we know he has mentioned "It's OK" (latest WotS podcast) and "Student Demonstration Time" (liner notes to the SF/SU twofer).

I second that....I hate SDT.

Funny thought about Brian agreeing with anything to get someone to stop talking to him...
"Hey Brian, how bout' that new Vanilla Ice album; it's great, isn't it?" "Huh...oh yeah, great album."

Grrr...I wish I could watch those, but can't due to my crappy computer.

What exactly did he say?

Something quite similar to "I don't have very good memories of that song...I dont know why, I just don't. I like the bass line [sings bass line]. And the lyrics are good. And I like Dennis' vocal tag line at the end. I like those things, but otherwise, overall I don't like it."

And Mike goes on and on about how it is the epitome of the Beach Boys.
