I wouldn't call Brian "crazy"...the above example really IS crazy (or, was).



1. It was his MANAGER he clocked with a pipe; said manager was also the guy who got Daniel into drugs, although it was Gibby Hanes (from the Butthole Surfers) who got him into acid.
2. According to  Dick Johnston (Dan's brother) , Dan thought he was Casper and could fly to safety. Dan hadn't taken his meds in two weeks, because they made him lethargic and he was on a tour.

I agree...  unless the fame-o-meter was used as part of the equation.

You know, that list was really put together for a laugh, but Brian's condition I never felt was all that funny. A guy who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, manic depression and brain damage doesn't seem all that humorous to me...but hey, whatever...

But then, many of the people on that list don't strike me as crazy. Mostly, they're either mentally ill (Brian Wilson, Syd Barret), sometimes do/say odd things, but are usually "normal" (Mariah Carey, Britney Spears) or are complete assholes (Axl Rose and Ike Turner).

That list is a bunch of garbage. GG Allin should have been number one or two. Nothing is sicker than that, as far as I'm concerned.

Well I do have a sense of humor about Brian, but he is so much more then "crazy". Love em or hate everyone on that list has fans and except for somebody like G.G. Allen. all made an impact musically that is something meaningful to their fanbase.

I think Ozzy shouldve been a bit higher on the list. And one person that wasn't on the list at all should be in the top 5. Marilyn Manson!

They obviously didn't rank these people just by how insane they are, but also by how famous they are. Otherwise that guy from Burzum (who killed his friend and burned churches) should have been #1...

Marilyn Manson isn't crazy. He's just playing a role. He just does what Kiss and Alice Cooper did before him and just takes it a little step further.

I second that. Marilyn Manson, while crazy to the average person...is just an actor. I've seen him in 'real' interviews and such...nothing really very crazy about him at all. Just an excellent showman. Euronymous...yeah...that's a bit extreme, even by crazy standards.

He's actually a pretty cool guy and quite the jokester. Marilyn Manson the performer and Brian Warner the person are quite different.

A mini-bio of Euronymous and Varg Vikernes, and a reason why both of them should have both been #1.

Euronymous took his name from the Swiss black metal band Hellhammer's song "Eurynomos". The artist formerly known as Øystein Aarseth is regarded as the father of Norwegian black metal. He actually owned a store called "Helvete" in Oslo, which specialized in black metal culture. He was an arsonist by nature, and he burned several churches along with other Norwegian black metal musicians. Euronymous fronted Mayhem from 1983 until the day he died. The story about him eating pieces of Dead's brain is true, however, it was Mayhem's drummer Hellhammer that used pieces of Dead's skull for a necklace. Varg Vikernes is the official name of the artist formerly known as (gasp!) Kristian Vikernes. He had, at least until 1999, a one-man black metal/ambient project called Burzum. He also murdered Euronymous, and described said murder in detail on the Burzum website. He has a lot of other writings there, and they're quite twisted.

These two guys should be #1 together because they're both legitimately insane.

Varg Vikernes is currently in prison for murdering Euronymus and setting fire to at least three churches (which costed the life of one firefighter). He also used to be a member of several neo-nazi and aryan resistance groups. I think you could say he's crazier than everyone else on that list...

The whole Mayhem/Burzum story is a "craziest pop star" article in itself.  :lol

Mayhem may be the most "evil" music ever, but Burzum's by far the most diabolical sound ever put on tape.

However I think there's difference between being crazy as in "eccentric" (e.g. Brian) and crazy as "criminally sick" like those sickos you mentioned

I'd say that offering cocaine to your children is beyond eccentric....

They shouldn't even be on the list, theyre not musicians, they are criminals and sickos (as has been said before). How people can be like that is beyond me. I cant believe people can even like these sort of guys, most of them arent in it for the music they're just in it to be a weirdo and get attention and some weirdo sick-twisted fans, so thats why I dont think they should be on the list. Its like the band Canibal Corpse (I think thats how you spell it). In my football (soccer) team a few years back my team mates used to talk about their lyrics etc.. Some of these people are just not cool.

Kids just want to rebel. They want to do stuff that their parents and teachers don't agree with. In the 50s shaking your hips on TV was enough to shock people, in the 60s long hair for boys and miniskirts were scandalous and in the 70s you had to put safety pins through your ears and have a mohawk to freak your parents out. Nowadays it's a bit harder to shock people cause they've seen and heard everything before. Nowadays kids have parents that grew up with hardrock. So you have to listen to some pretty extreme stuff to freak your parents out nowadays. Some of these extreme metal bands are pretty insane, but I'd say that the majority is about the same thing that the Sex Pistols were about - helping kids to get on their parents' nerves.

Yeh thats very true, I guess Im different cause I like The Beach Boys (just like my dad) so I get on pretty well with him, even though thats about all (and other bands) we share in common it still means that I have something to talk to him about. But Ive never been one to try and get on my parents' nerves, I just dont see the point, if you dont want to see your parents, why not go out with friends to the movies or the park or whatever and just get away from them. But I spose everyone has differing opinions, especially when your a kid.

I know how great the Beach Boys could be, but not many other dudes around where I live know. I feel as if it's kind of rebelling against the status quo of the local hipster culture by listening to the BB's. It was said on Brian's A&E Bio that...["the BB's are not supposed to be hip, they are supposed to move you emotionally.."] Not that this has anything to do with Brian being the #2 whatever that means craziest Rocker ever.

I remember hearing an interview with Brian circa 1974 in which Brian says that Roger McGuinn has a laser beam??? I'm not sure what on earth he was talking about!

The funny thing about hipsters...hang on to the same thing (in this case, Beach Boys), and every few years the hipsters get into it again. Beatles sound...BW sound...Stones sound...Smiths sound...folkie sound...Zep sound..Beatles sound...BW sound...Stones sound...Smiths sound...etc ad infinitum. My theory on this is that the hipsters just change. Everyone goes through a phase of each of the "classics," discovering them in time just like every teen/young adult "discovers" sex. So someone comes across the Beatles, spreads it among hipster-friends, and it's a scene. It wears out, they move on. But someone else soon discovers the Beatles!

The Lazer thing I think he was talking about a television. I seem to remember the 1976 David Felton article on Brian's comeback in Rolling Stone mentioned that Brian had one.
