Title: Fred Vail
Post by: windchimes on February 22, 2007, 10:02:54 PM
Could somebody please give some insight on this man and what he did for the boys? Did something bad happen in the mid 70's? Just interested because he seems to be a sort of phantom in all of my BB books and whatnot. Thanks

Concisely, he promoted a BB gig in Sacremento (I think) in 1963, they saw he had the nous (and was also their age), so together they formed American Productions to handle the touring side of things. I think he fell foul of Jack Rieley, or at least the Rieley era mentality, and was replaced. At the time he was charging the band's touring expenses to his own personal credit cards (because they were essentially stony broke), and when he was 'removed', he wrote a check to cover his outstanding 'loans'. Apparently the band stopped the check, and his credit rating was ruined for about five, six years. But he remained great friends with Dennis.

Interesting, I wonder what his deal was with Jack. Was it a musical issue? I kind of feel bad for the guy, seems like he got the wrong end of the stick here.

He was also great friends with Carl and Brian, to hear him tell it.  He is a wonderful storyteller, and his stories are all just filled with love for those Wilson boys.
