Title: What would YOU choose for a BW set-list ? Post by: Malc on February 04, 2007, 02:26:42 AM OK – here’s one for ya. What would YOU choose as your set-list for the forthcoming September BW shows in the UK ?
Assuming (that as with “SMiLE”) all of Part 2 will be filled with the new 4-part suite, what would you fill a 15-song Part One with ? And a 4-song encore ? And it’s got to appeal to both hardcore fans AND general Beach Boy ‘admirers’ … How’s this for starters ? ... and including "Don't Let Her Know" and “Rio Grande” … now, wouldn’t THAT be nice ??!! PART ONE: 1 Sail On Sailor 2 Little Girl I Once Knew 3 This Whole World 4 Kiss Me Baby 5 California Girls 6 Add Some Music To Your Day 7 Break Away 8 Darlin’ 9 Surf’s Up 10 Forever / Heaven (Tributes to DW/CW) 11 Don't Let Her Know She's An Angel 12 Funky Pretty (or maybe still "Marcella" ?) 13 Rio Grande 14 Help Me Rhonda 15 Good Vibrations PART TWO: 16 That Lucky Old Sun (A Narrative) ENCORE: 15 Surfin’ USA 16 Dance Dance Dance 17 Fun Fun Fun 18 Love & Mercy Title: Re: What would YOU choose for a BW set-list ? Post by: John on February 04, 2007, 06:39:23 AM Damn, I forgot "A Day in the Life of a Tree" and that's one of my favourites. I'd also dig hearing Jeff's "Mary Ann" too.

Title: Re: What would YOU choose for a BW set-list ? Post by: Jim McShane on February 04, 2007, 10:01:21 AM This Whole World (lead: Darian and Jeff) I have a recording of a live Wondermints show with them doing This Whole World With Darian singing lead. It's really really good! He absolutely nails the lead. I wish the recording quality was better, but the whole band sounds incredible, Darian especially. I love your idea of different BW band members taking some leads. I'd also like to hear them do a couple non-BW songs - like Scott Bennett's "Pearls", Jeff's "It's My Fault", and the 'Mints "Hypnolove" or "Ride". Title: Re: What would YOU choose for a BW set-list ? Post by: the captain on February 04, 2007, 10:24:03 AM I love your idea of different BW band members taking some leads. It's something I strongly believe would improve the shows (and albums). And I don't even think it's (much of) a slight to Brian's deteriorated voice (or, at best, up-and-down voice). He shared parts when he was at his peak, he can certainly share them now. Besides, he clearly gets joy out of being a part of a vocal ensemble. Do you think he'd rather sing parts he can do well as part of a beautiful whole, or sing more challenging parts that he knows full well he isn't up to anymore when there are excellent, capable singers all around him?
