Title: Brian Wilson Biopic: Funniest movie of all time?
Post by: halblaineisgood on January 29, 2007, 12:42:17 AM
Think of all the hilarious anecdotes you've read over the years and imagine them being played out on the big screen. the Brian/Elvis meeting; "The Karate Chop Incident"..."I told you not to do that".......Having Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper singing shortenin bread over and over...well, maybe there's just those two. Huh. I didn't think this over very well. Well, the elvis incident at least....I laugh hysterically just thinking about that.

I'd love to see that incident with some guy from the Eagles I believe. He asked Brian for an autograph, Brian wrote "To a great songwriter", then thought about it and crossed the word "great" out and wrote "good" instead of it.  ;D

Also I would love to see the "pre-recorded answer"-thing when he went to Capitol-meetings, as was already used on "An american family".

maybe the whole green paint story brought up in the Catch a Wave book...and repainting the house (cant remember what though)...and maybe having his gardner digging his own grave

Or this one from Nick Lowe, 1974...

"I met Brian in a restaurant in LA recently. Thought he was the perfect gentleman, right up until he buttered his head and put it between two slices of bread".

I remember hearing about that; didn't know it was someone from the Eagles.  I laughed out loud just picturing Brian writing "thanks for all the great songs", then crossing it out and writing "good" instead.  I just found that absolutely hilarious.

The recent meeting of Brian & Bono should be included too!  :o

Heck, it could be a 1/2 hour weekly sitcom!

Something like "Oh, those Wilsons" ? Maybe Dennis could make a guest-spot and drive Mr Wilson crazy... :-D

In the deceased male Ego Board there were some proposals for a  TV pilot of a reality show with the Wilsons: "WHEN ARE THESE KIDS GOING HOME?"   :afro

I'm of the school of thought that states Brian should've beaten Ozzy Osbourne to the punch and have a "Wilsons" reality show.

I read that in an 'Apocryphal Rock'n'Roll stories' booklet accompanying the NME from about 1992ish, in that the story was attributed to the lead singer of The Wonder Stuff (early 90s crusty pop/rock band, singer was I think Miles Hunt)!

I haven't heard about this one.  What went down?  Did Brian sign for him as well?  "Thanks for all the great songs!" then cross out great and write shitty!  Actually, to be fair, U2 was good through Achtung Baby then after that they were shitty.

Went something like this:

Bono: [kneels before Brian] God bless you for all the great music you've written.

Brian: Thanks - could you get me a diet coke ?

Yeah, I'm not sure of the validity of that story; since Tom Petty didn't release his first album until 1976, he may still have been hanging around Jacksonville, Florida in '74. It's one of those stories that reads funnier than it would have played out in real life; in fact it sounds like something Woody Allen would have written in one of his short story books.

I'm sure most of you know about Peter Bagge's "Murry Wilson: Rock N' Roll Dad" episodes- but for those who don't, you can see them online at http://icebox.com/index.php?id=episode&show_id=s14&episode_id=e1&PHPSESSID=ddc8ea1d2dc19862b044cfff0ac330e2 (http://icebox.com/index.php?id=episode&show_id=s14&episode_id=e1&PHPSESSID=ddc8ea1d2dc19862b044cfff0ac330e2)

I think the first one is the best one...

"We'll have fun in the sun, or I'm gonna get my belt!"

Priceless...

I think most of the punchlines in this slapstick comedy biopic would involve some form of food or drink.

Yes, as is one of my favorites, which is from Beautiful Dreamer.

The interviewer is talking to Brian about the imfamous tent in the living room that was used for "meetings". The interviewer asks Brian (and I'm paraphrasing), "What did you do in the tent?" And Brian simply says, "Eat sandwiches."  Cracks me up every time.  :lol

Two words:

"Hi, Queen!"  ;D

(For those who don't know about this, it comes from an interview with Foskett (http://www.new-surf.com/foskett/interviews.html (http://www.new-surf.com/foskett/interviews.html)))

Quote

Interviewer: Everybody has a "Brian" story - can you share a funny one with us?

Jeff Foskett: He is a great source for entertainment to be sure. I will tell you the most recent funny thing that happened. We were performing the encore at Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee Celebration. Surprisingly to all, Her Majesty decided to walk on stage and greet the performers. We had been copied on an "etiquette list" of do's and don'ts should the opportunity arise to meet Her Majesty. One of the don'ts was: "do not address Her Majesty as 'Queen'".  As she approached Brian and myself, I leaned to him and said "Remember Bri, don't call her Queen, say 'Your Highness' or 'Your Majesty'".  When she was right in front of us, Brian waved out his hand and said "Hi Queen!". What a character... She was very gracious.

Don't know if this would make it into a Biopic, but...I just loved it when The beach boys were doing Tv Spots for full house, and it went something like this,

Band: Were the beach boys, and were on full house (Something like that)

Women: (To Baby) Say Hi Beach Boys

Brian: Hi Beach Boys !!!!

 ;D I love that

A new Brian-story:

Quote
Later, they give a private concert for us campers, Jeff and Brian with Wilson’s regular band, rendering all the old favourites. People in the audience are crying with happiness. Jeff ?calls the campers on stage to sing along. I see Wilson eyeing up Jan O’Brien from Tucson, who is right beside him.

She was still skittish about it the next day, as she described how he came into her studio and looked her up and down and went over to her afterwards, when she had finished singing, and said: “You have nice legs.” She had seen him again in the car park and he continued flirting, telling her she had sung a nice song, gazing at her chest as he spoke. He was old, but Jan was still flattered.

I think Petty said it in 1988 if I am not mistaken.

I think it's a generic BW tale - certainly I saw it in a book of rock quotes attributed to Nick Lowe (or maybe it was Dave Edmunds) before 1988.

I still think the 1985 Madonna quote rules.

Anyone remember this one from around 1980 I think:  Nick Kent turns up to interview Brian looking 'elegantly wasted' à la 1970's Keith Richards.  Brian greets him and says "Hey, you look more like a rock star than me - maybe I should interview you!"

When the Flaming Lips toured with Beck Wayne would run a video for everyone while they were setting up which was an interview he conducted with Brian fro Vh1 which was never aired. The whole time Wayne is interviewing him, Brian has this terrified look on his face like he was worried Wayne was going to punch him or something. Weirdest interview I have ever seen.

The Madonna quote appeared in a 1985 issue of Musician, and as best I can recall goes something like (and you have to bear in mind the title of her then-current hit):

"Oh, Madonna,  great song - I'd really like to meet her but I seriously doubt she's a virgin".

Classic, classic Brian.  ;D

Andrew one line you left out is really funny. Brian goes "I'm shaving my beard soon" then does a complete left turn and says" I would really like to meet Madonna. I would say ""Gee you're Pretty". I seriouslly doubt she's a virgin, but that's a good song"

Indeed he did. I think that was the last time he had one.
