Title: Mikes new single: "Worst Christmas Song Ever" ?? Post by: PongHit on December 20, 2006, 11:39:50 AM The following is from... http://www.presstelegram.com/news/ci_4864814 "THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING: We just heard the new Christmas offering by Mike Love of Beach Boys fame, and as a result, we are installing that song, 'Santa's Goin' to Kokomo,' as the perpetual Hall of Fame Worst Christmas Song Ever. "Whoever thought it was a good idea to drag a song as bad as 'Kokomo' out of the mothballs to be given a Christmas makeover deserves to be known hereafter as the Person Who Killed Christmas. The Person Who Actually Walked Right Up to Christmas and Strangled It In Front of a Crowd of Horrified Shoppers. "You can, in theory, download the song for 99 cents at iTunes, but it will only make you sad or angry." Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: Eric Aniversario on December 21, 2006, 02:55:42 AM That's pretty harsh.
I actually like it a lot. I think I've played it about 200 times since it was released. The video is pretty amusing...you can find it on YouTube. Scott Totten produced it and played lead guitar on it (I believe). Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: Rocker on December 21, 2006, 02:56:26 AM I don't think it's the worst of all time. I don't take it serious enough to even care that much about it. nice to listen to, thoug.
Creatively I agree. It's really sad to rewrite (or even re-record) the same song so many times. I don't even like Brian doing old Beach Boys-songs on his studio-soloalbums. Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: Smilin Ed H on December 21, 2006, 04:36:10 AM It's awful and embarrassing. However, have you heard the Stones' Santa and the Honky Tonk Women?
Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: Shady on December 21, 2006, 05:41:29 AM Dont care for the song..Dont care for the article
Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: OrganicMachine on December 22, 2006, 12:01:29 AM When I listened to it all I could think of was, "Does Mike think the cheesier something is the better it will do commercially?"
Title: Re: Mikes new single: Post by: Exapno Mapcase on December 22, 2006, 11:18:11 AM Crap song. Why, Mike? Why?
Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: the captain on December 22, 2006, 11:45:38 AM The song was every bit as good as I'd have guessed it would be.
In other words, it is absolutely worthless sh*t. Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: NHC on December 22, 2006, 05:22:42 PM Come on, is there a legitimate point to any of this, or just the same juvenile pettiness so many people can't seem to avoid? if someone doesn't like a song, fine, say so and move on, but none of this is necessary, and obviously just another excuse to criticize. It is so tiresome. One thing I learned a long time ago is how easy it is to mask your own flaws by attacking others for no reason except to be a smart aleck and try to show how smart or cool you are.
Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: Andrew G. Doe on December 22, 2006, 11:05:04 PM If it was a truly, truly awful offering - like, for instance, the 'seasonal' offering here in the UK from the actor who plays the father in 'The Royle Family'; it's called "Christamas My Arse": charming - then I'd understand all the fuss, but it's, at worst, pointless. I'm reminded of kids in my store who look at the candies and say, loudly, "don't like THAT, don't like THAT, HATE THAT". Well, children, then don't buy them.
Know what you're going to say - "well shut the **** up about how bad GIOMH then". Valid point, except that Mike's song isn't being touted as proof of continuing genius. It's not even a regular release. And - and this is a major plus with me - it's not Slade's "Merry Christmas, Everyone" either. Title: Re: Mikes new single: Post by: Exapno Mapcase on December 23, 2006, 02:09:09 AM It's not that it's bad, it's that it's embarrassing.
Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: Andrew G. Doe on December 23, 2006, 03:22:05 AM So is GIOMH - absolutely everyone I've spoken to involved in the creation of it expressed their considerable displeasure at how it turned out.
Title: Re: Mikes new single: Post by: Exapno Mapcase on December 23, 2006, 03:47:49 AM I agree, but at leat there were 3 or 4 actual decent songs on there before the recording/production buggered them up.
Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: drlandy on December 23, 2006, 05:38:09 AM Hey c'mon everyone...this is not a release but a little christmas gift by uncle Mike, so what's the point in all that criticism?
Imagine yourself giving away a christmas present and having to hear what a piece of bullshit it is from everybody. Remember what xmas is all about? Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: Dutchie on December 23, 2006, 06:20:04 AM AMEN... OK group hug ;D
Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: Rocker on December 23, 2006, 08:19:03 AM Hey c'mon everyone...this is not a release but a little christmas gift by uncle Mike, so what's the point in all that criticism? Imagine yourself giving away a christmas present and having to hear what a piece of bullmerda it is from everybody. Remember what xmas is all about? Right. I remember when people on the blueboard were critisizing Brian for his "Silent night"-version which he just recorded for his site and as a nice little gift. I believe after that, he didn't do any more christmas-songs for his site. Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: the captain on December 23, 2006, 11:01:38 AM Remember what xmas is all about? Greed, gluttony and commercialism. Right? Title: Re: Mikes new single: Post by: Magic Transistor Radio on December 23, 2006, 03:18:14 PM I think a lot of people have made up there mind that everything Mike does stinks, and everything Brian does is incredible. For the most part, this may be true, but Brian has done several stinkers, and Mike has done some good things. As for this Christmas song, I am indifferent.

For the most part, this may be true, but Brian has done several stinkers, and Mike has done some good things. As for this Christmas song, I am indifferent. Ditto. I fail to see what's so atrocious about this little Christmas dittie. I like it better than Mike's 1983 effort. Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: SloopJohnB on December 24, 2006, 03:09:23 AM I don't understand why some people are criticizing Mike for that song... Or they're just "Mike-bashers" who have decided once and for all that everything Mike does is bullmerda.
This song's certainly no masterpiece, but it's fun to listen to. :) Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: Dutchie on December 24, 2006, 06:26:19 AM ;D i put it up for download since november 25th and it has been downloaded on MY link 21 times :lol
beat that. :afro but what i am trying to say is that its oke to have an opinion but respect each others opinion. There are people who like it or dont. I for once love it and i dont care if its a remake. What matters is that its a gift to the fans and availible for download. happy holidays Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: Aegir on December 25, 2006, 08:25:48 PM I like Mike Love and respect him alot more than anyone should. I love Country Love. Summer in Paradise is pretty good. I think a couple of the songs from his new solo album are pretty great.
However, I absoutely deplore Santa's Going to Kokomo. Title: Re: Mikes new single: \ Post by: Dave in KC on December 30, 2006, 12:56:13 PM Nothing new here. It simply is Mike trying to keep up with Brian. Even if it is re-working the Beach Boys greatest hit vs. WIRWFC.
