Post by: punkinhead on November 02, 2006, 06:53:07 AM
i was never a big fan of when i read about him, but then again, what i was reading was in wouldnt it be nice...and now as i read my newest BW bio by Carlin, I actually kinda like the guy...felt sorry for him when he made that speech for brian in the early 90s

Now that is a hard one. Like you said punkinhead, after reading various articles and PAC's new book, I've swung to thinking he's a good guy. But, didn't he get the sack as manager and was sued for embezzling money from the band in the '70s?? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I do however, think that Rocky Pamplin was a proper freeloader...

Rocky was awful..i think he beat up all of the Wilsons. Not sure if he beat up Brian, but Brian has said he was intimitaded by Rocky and he was banging Marylin for awhile. But Brian had many GF's at this time too.

Was Stan the manager or was that another Love? there were quite a few Love's around in the 70's.

oh wait, just realized a reason not to like Stan, if i'm thinking right, him and Blondie had a dispute, thus, Blondie left the band  :'(

oh, and Rocky...nice try at California Feelin, I actually kinda like it, but what BW/BB recording don't i like?

Stan was fine basketball player but, like a lotta folks, lacked the necessary info to understand the serious mental illness that his cousin suffered from.

Like a lotta folks, he probably did the best he could to/for Brian.........but it wasn't up to (sunny-down) snuff.

Steve was the manager.

Stan Love seemed like an OK guy in some ways, but had a jock mentality that made his efforts to help Brian pretty wrongheaded. Btw it is thanks to him that Dennis lost his voice. Both times Dennis voice got dramaticaly worse it was due to Stan (Steve may have been the guy in the first fight I'm not sure),

Really?  How did that happen?  I believe you, but I have never seen that story anywhere and am curious about the details.

I think the throat hits are a red herring.  ;)

Well I have interviewed a lot of Beach Boys friends and family and about 3-4 told me that Dennis was punched in the throat sometime in 1974 by Stan or Steve Love. It's I think true because it is such a sudden thing when you hear a concert from 1973 then say one from 1975. The Superbowl Sunday 1981 beating by Stan and Rocky is told in detail in the Gaines book. I came up with the 1981 date because in the 1980 clips of Dennis he can still speak intelligably. In the 1981 clips he couldn't. I know these stories aren't well known but I think they are true and along with the gradual effects of drinking, smoking, and snorting wrecked Dennis' voice
