I somehow don't seem to connect with latter day Dylan all too well, yet the lyrics of "Thunder on the Mountain" have certainly convinced me to give it another try.

Half-Handed Cloud, Halos & Lassos Belle & Sebastian, The Life Pursuit Bob Dylan, Modern Times Voxtrot, Mothers, Sisters, Daughters and Wives (if EPs count) Joanna Newsom, Ys The Hold Steady, Boys and Girls in America Bob Parins, the Kissing Rocks The Theater Fire, Everybody Has a Dark Side Heartless Bastards, All This Time Belles of Skin City, You Do the Company Proud Title: Re: Favorite albums of 2006 Post by: L Ransford on November 03, 2006, 09:56:39 AM I can't pick any of the top of my head but my favorite song of 2006 has to be "Fresh Mowed Lawn" by Fresh Mowed Lawn. Incredible and transcendent. If someone locked Crowded House and Tears For Fears into a studio together and said they couldn't get out until they made an epic track, this would be it.
Title: Re: Favorite albums of 2006 Post by: Mr. President on November 07, 2006, 03:20:14 PM So far Beck's The Information, possibly his best album.
Title: Re: Favorite albums of 2006 Post by: CosmicDancer on November 07, 2006, 05:09:13 PM So far Beck's The Information, possibly his best album. Good call. I personally think Sea Change is his best but this new one is phenominal. Title: Re: Favorite albums of 2006 Post by: Mr. President on November 07, 2006, 05:44:42 PM Many Beck fans I know claim Sea Change as his best, it's a great record but personally I find it difficult to listen to. The Information however is a very fresh and dynamic sounding album.

Title: Re: Favorite albums of 2006 Post by: Don't Back Down on November 08, 2006, 12:23:42 PM So far Beck's The Information, possibly his best album. Would you happen to know the title of the song that Beck performed on SNL a couple weekends ago? It was him on guitar/harmonica and his band rocking out with silverware on a dinner table and random objects. Sounded really good. Title: Re: Favorite albums of 2006 Post by: Mr. President on November 08, 2006, 02:12:37 PM Would you happen to know the title of the song that Beck performed on SNL a couple weekends ago? It was him on guitar/harmonica and his band rocking out with silverware on a dinner table and random objects. Sounded really good. I know it had elements of One Foot In The Grave which was originally on Beck's excellent 1994 release Stereo Pathetic Soul Manure, it was a cool performance. I thought the Lips was their worst since they began working with Fridmann. Still better than most of the stuff out there, but not anywhere near their best. Title: Re: Favorite albums of 2006 Post by: chris.metcalfe on November 13, 2006, 01:12:36 AM Los Lobos - The Town and the City

I thought the Lips was their worst since they began working with Fridmann. Still better than most of the stuff out there, but not anywhere near their best. There's a lot of great stuff out there - get listinin! Are you telling me to listen to more albums? I've probably listened to 200 albums released in 2006, so you might be barking up the wrong tree with me on that one. I was just saying the Lips' mediocre efforts are better than many other people's best. I tend to be one of the people around here who champions new music (as opposed to the old/rehashed crap). You might want to go back and look at all my '06 suggestions from this thread. Title: Re: Favorite albums of 2006 Post by: the captain on November 22, 2006, 01:18:57 PM Tom Waits, Orphans. (Released yesterday in the states, a 3-disc set originally intended to be a rarities album, but that ended up with new songs, re-recordings of old songs and rarities. Something like 30+ new ones)
Title: Re: Favorite albums of 2006 Post by: Ptolemaios on December 11, 2006, 04:08:04 PM I think the only new album I bought this year was Black Holes And Revelations by Muse. And it was amazing! Most of the bands I like are dead by now 8)
