Title: Great SOUNDTRACKS Post by: Maybelline on January 13, 2006, 02:24:22 PM Last time I started this, everyone had so much interesting stuff to say about favourite soundtracks. Been listening to The Graduate S/T today... really mellow. Also love Midnight Cowboy. And Saturday Night Fever. And Jackie Brown.
So, post away about soundtracks you love... including soundtracks that are better than the films they belong to! Title: Re: Great SOUNDTRACKS Post by: onkster on January 13, 2006, 02:26:22 PM "Eternal Sunshine" works really well as an album. Even my small children dug it, day after day, driving home from school.
There aren't a whole lot of "song" tracks per se, but the instrumentals are among Jon Brion's loveliest offerings. Title: Re: Great SOUNDTRACKS Post by: Domo Arigato on January 13, 2006, 02:51:05 PM "Casino Royale"
"You Are What You Eat" "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum" "Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid" "The Sting" "Mary Poppins" "The Sound Of Music" "My Fair Lady" is especially good on acid. Title: Re: Great SOUNDTRACKS Post by: Boxer Monkey on January 13, 2006, 02:56:54 PM I love anything by Jon Brion. "Punch-Drunk Love" is about the best, though.
Other faves: The "Mondo Morricone" box: Lush, exotic, psyched-out stuff that you probably wouldn't associate with the guy mostly famous for his work on Sergio Leone Westerns. More like tranced-out Bacharach by way of Bernard Herrmann. Lots of circular, spiralling melodies. And, speaking of Herrmann: "Vertigo," "The Day the Earth Stood Still." John Barry: "OHMSS," "The Knack," "Deadfall." (Seems like I post the same sh*t every time we do one of these soundtrack threads.) Title: Re: Great SOUNDTRACKS Post by: punkinhead on January 13, 2006, 02:59:41 PM huge soundtrack fan here, that's the first type of music i was introduced to:

Title: Re: Great SOUNDTRACKS Post by: I. Spaceman on January 13, 2006, 05:29:38 PM Utter complicity with it's visuals. Pure emotion without irony. Most memorable melodies and themes.
I love the other Lynch scores as well, except Toto's work on Dune, of course. Title: Re: Great SOUNDTRACKS Post by: wind chime on January 13, 2006, 07:31:49 PM Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence 1983 by Ryuichi Sakamoto

Title: Re: Great SOUNDTRACKS Post by: I. Spaceman on January 13, 2006, 09:51:36 PM Goodfellas is my favorite "chosen music" score.
The juxtaposition of Jump Into The Fire by Nilsson, Monkey Man by the Stones, Mannish Boy by Muddy Waters, What Is Life by George Harrison and Magic Bus by The Who is crazy and magical. Harder They Come is a fabulous choice, bravo. Title: Re: Great SOUNDTRACKS Post by: punkinhead on January 13, 2006, 09:56:59 PM HEAD!

Curtis Mayfield - Let's Do It Again Miles Davis - L'Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud ( I guess I should mention this, it's a famous soundtrack, I don't think it's that great, but probably works great with the film, maybe someone can explain it to me) Søren Title: Re: Great SOUNDTRACKS Post by: Matinee Idyll on January 15, 2006, 05:46:10 AM My favourite film score composer is Thomas Newman... Who did the scores for films such as The Shawshank Redemption, The Horse Whisperer, The Green Mile, American Beauty, Road to Perdition...
His music really touches me, there was a time when I listened to nothing but his scores. I also really like the score by James Newton Howard for Snow Falling on Cedars, some of Michael Nymans works (The Piano mainly), aswell as some of Hans Zimmers - The Thin Red Line, Black Hawk Down... Nice thread. :) Title: Re: Great SOUNDTRACKS Post by: Maybelline on January 15, 2006, 07:06:46 AM Yes MI, The Piano is a stunning soundtrack. Some friends went to see Michael Nyman play live recently.
