"Lawdy Miss Clawdy" in either version is a gas. So is "Stagger Lee": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4H-rg1k4sw Rest in peace, Mr Price. Thank you for some great music. Title: Re: R. I. P. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esbL7CjTavo You could get jealous if this is what they are playing in heaven now... Title: Re: R. I. P. Lloyd Price Post by: Lonely Summer on May 10, 2021, 02:32:18 PM No replies yet? Sheesh. :o Well, to be fair, he's been off the radar for many decades now. Used to hear his songs on the oldies stations quite a lot, but if I hear ANY 50's stuff on the radio now, it doesn't go much past Elvis, Chuck, Buddy, Richard, Ricky, Fats, and the Everlys. "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" in either version is a gas. So is "Stagger Lee": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4H-rg1k4sw Rest in peace, Mr Price. Thank you for some great music. The one time I saw him in later years was on a Huey Lewis and the News concert, and he looked decades younger than he was at the time - 1994 - had a smile bigger than the sun, and sounded great. My favorite local band, Jr. Cadillac, sometimes performs "Have You Ever Had the Blues" - b-side of "Personality". I'm sure they'll be playing it this summer - if live music can come back. The only one I can think of who is still with us as of this writing is Clarence "Frogman" Henry. Just listened to his wonderful "But I Do." Precious few left of the second wave - Irma Thomas and Aaron Neville. Neville announced his retirement from performing except an occasional special event. All those wonderful singers gone. But will continue to love and listen to their joyous music. Title: Re: R. I. P. "Tell It Like It Is" was a US #2 for him in 1966. What a voice! ::) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxROmtyrCxg Title: Re: R. I. P. Lloyd Price Post by: Lonely Summer on May 17, 2021, 07:50:30 PM Those are some classic records. Tell it Like it is....first heard it as a remake by the band Heart. Not a bad version, but nobody remembers it today. How can you top Aaron Neville?
I was trying to find some albums by the Frogman last summer, no luck. I only have the singles - I Don't Know Why I Love You But I Do, Ain't Got No Home, You Always Hurt the One You Love....great stuff. Title: Re: R. I. P.
