Title: 2 Disc Very Best of
Post by: feelintheflows on January 27, 2021, 01:20:15 PM
Why haven’t The Beach Boys gotten a proper 2 cd very best of?

I have my issues with sounds of summer but that’s another convo.

Aerosmith, allman bros, Chicago, doobie bros, the doors, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac all of gotten this treatment. Seems to me The Beach Boys deserve it. And 50 big ones doesn’t count.

Why wouldn't "50 Big Ones" count? Whether one likes the tracklisting or not, it's a career-spanning 2-CD "Best of."

And certainly, I'd say just combining "Greatest Hits Vol. 1 and 2" gets you a 2-CD comp, as does combining "Sounds of Summer" and "Warmth of the Sun." And "Endless Summer" and "Spirit of America."

The one thing I've figured most fans would agree on is that we don't need *more* compilations.

With the amount of Beach Boys compilations out there it would be easy to believe that whoever's in charge of new product might just not remember or be able to easily reference what all they've issued already.

Don't get me wrong, I do understand the specific nature of a *2 disc* compilation as opposed to a single disc or a multi-disc/boxed set situation.

Having a 2-disc hits compilation for a band that has 87 albums like the Beach Boys is not a crazy idea.

But they have had a number of such compilations, and even more if you just look at first and second volumes of various repackage series.

Do Endless Summer+Spirit of America not count? Or Greatest Hits 1, 2, and 3 from the 90s? Sounds of Summer+Warmth of the Sun?
