Title: Adam Webb Dumb Angel Post by: donald on August 21, 2006, 11:32:00 AM Seems this book is never discussed in these forums. Just wondering about the apparent oversight.

Title: Re: Adam Webb Dumb Angel Post by: Andrew G. Doe on August 21, 2006, 03:01:21 PM Not very well written, edited or proofed.
Title: Re: Adam Webb Dumb Angel Post by: MBE on August 21, 2006, 05:02:21 PM Some good interviews. I liked how he pointed out the merits of P.O.B. compared to the Beach Boys late 70s work. If Stebbins' book didn't exist it would be rated much higher by me. Jon simply did a better job.

But apart from that, Mrs Lincoln...? ;D Title: Re: Adam Webb Dumb Angel Post by: Lola Jane on August 22, 2006, 03:51:40 AM This book feels more like a series of essays put together. Parts of it are interesting, and I disagree with AGD in that some of it is nicely written and evocative. It seems a bit scrappy, though. I get annoyed with books that have only b&w photos - it feels unfinished.
Title: Re: Adam Webb Dumb Angel Post by: donald on August 22, 2006, 09:30:18 AM Jon's is the superior book, IMO. I once told him this and he very unselfishly spoke kindly about Webb's effort.
There are bits and pieces of this book which do add something to the understanding of the man who was Dennis Wilson. Title: Re: Adam Webb Dumb Angel Post by: c-man on August 22, 2006, 10:33:10 AM It's not a bad book by any means. Most annoying though are the simple typos.
One other thing I don't like is Webb's insistence that Dennis' return to the drums in late '74 is what "killed" him as an artist. His opinion, of course, but clearly with the impending emergence of "POB", this wasn't the case... Craig |
