Well, a large segment of the hardcore fans probably wouldn't care, but we'd be missing out on a lot of great music and the group might not even be remembered as a vocal group. You could argue that maybe the '68-73 material has more commercial success without the surf/car image attached to the group but the reality is Today-Smile wouldn't have existed without what came before it.

They wouldn't be nearly as famous if all they had under their belt were these albums.

I love the Beach Boys as much for I Get Around as I do for Good Vibrations.

If not more.

And honestly, I'd much rather have Surfer Girl and Shut Down Vol II than CATP and Holland. By a country f*cking mile.

A LOT of great music is missing from that initial list.

I could honestly live with this. They’d probably be a lot less stigmatised as well.... that said though I would miss classics like The Warmth Of The Sun, which is still the only song that ever moved me to tears

Maybe I'm missing the point--or a point--but honestly I could live with Surfin' Safari thru Surf's Up.

Come to think of it, I sorta do....

I love pretty much everything they did from Surfin' USA up to and including Love You. But there's some good stuff here and there on each album that came afterwards. Life's not black and white, so I'm perfectly fine with their discography being flawed. I wouldn't want to miss Good Timin', My Diane, Baby Blue, Pacific Coast Highway...
