Post by: punkinhead on August 06, 2006, 12:17:45 PM
i have to post about this...i've been thinkin about real legit lyrics that shouldnt go unnoticed:

"one arm over my shoulder, sandels dancin' my feet"
"And the way the kids talk so cool is an out of sight thing"
"I was living like half a man then I couldn't love but now I can"
"And when I'm lookin' at her the sound of pitter patter"
"Disco disco discoteque mama"

"Maybe if, we wish and think and hope and pray it might come true...
Baby then, there wouldn't be a single thing we couldn't do,
We could be married (we could be married), and then we'd be happy (and then we'd be happy)
   Oh wouldn't it be nice?"

F***ing excellent, I NEVER get sick of listening to that song... :-D

Every time I get the inspiration
To go change things around
No one wants to help me look for places
Where new things might be found
Where can I turn when my fair weather friends cop out
What's it all about
Each time things start to happen again
I think I got something good goin' for myself
But what goes wrong

"She told me baby when you race today just take along my love with you...."

"I'm getting bugged driving up and down the same old strip"

"It's not a big motorcycle just a groovy little motorbike"

"I know perfectly well I'm not where I should be...."

"He hurt you then, but that's all gone, I guess I'm saying you're the only one....."

"The way I act don't seem like me, I'm not on top like I used to be"

"At three-score-and-five I'm very much alive, I've still got the jive to survive with the Heroes and Villains"

"And I wondered, as it got light, were you still awake like me?"

"And now that you don't need him, well he can have his freedom"

"My love is burning brightly, like moon and stars shine nightly"

"And I can break away to a better life, where no shackles ever hold me down"

"The other kind fled to hide by and by, and so sincerely cried"

"I miss my pad and the places I've known, and every night as I lay there alone I would dream...."

"Tell the teacher we're surfin'..."

"It's a little bobsled, they call it Old Saint Nick, but she'll walk a taboggan with a four-speed stick"

"Easy my child, it's just enough to believe...out of the wild, into what you can conceive, you'll achieve..."

Big Bri...I have to agree....coolest lyrics of the 70's

'Cause it's a silent night in the sea
And if you're cosmic'ly conscious you'll see
Why she's a princess incarnate to me
Daughter of Neptune the ruler of the sea

Especially on the Live Album '73.Mike Love's low-voice is just killer on "Daughter of Neptune, the ruler of the sea."

So poignant. Love it.
There are of course more, but these are the first that came to my mind.

Come be my redeemer, awaken me beautiful dreamer

Break my heart
I want to go and cry
It's so sad to watch a sweet thing die

Let the bees make honey
Let the poor find money
Take away their sorrows
Give them sunshine tomorrow

So I'm goin' away
Mmm but not forever
Na na na na
I gotta love you anyway

I'm a cork on the ocean
Floating over the raging sea

A children's song
Have you listened as they played
Their song is love
And the children know the way

I agree, great stuff. A few more...

"It's kinda sad...won't last forever..."
"There's a world where I can go and tell my secrets to"
"For so long I thought about it, and now I just can't live without it, this beautiful image I have of you."
"I don't know where but she sends me there"
"In that soulful old man sunshine"
"Please no more lists, send no more gifts"

Oh, and of course my signature quote.  :)

"The river's a bed of sweet berries and flowers
Banks of thirsty lies
(Please be careful)
The stream is an eyeglass of heroes
Bridged with bright replies
The creek is a funnel of forgiveness
Winning every prize
Steamboat of living ever faithfully ride.

The river's a dream in a waltz time
Banks of jasper glaze
(Have a ball and sing)
The stream is a timepiece of children
Bridged with crystal haze
The creek is a trumpet of hard times
Blowing tasty days
Steamboat of living ever faithfully glide.

Don't worry mister Fulton
We'll get your steamboat rollin'."

Let the bees make honey
Let the poor find money

Damn, I was going to post these - these lines crack me up every time!

(twenty-two twenty-three)
Won't last forever
(twenty-four twenty-five)
It's kind of sad

I've loved the lyrics to when I Grow Up since I was a kid, and the older I get the more they resonate I think - amazing.

BuddhaHat,
I couldn't agree with you more! I'm 43 now and "When I Grow Up.." resonates now so much more since I first heard it when I was 9 years old.
"At My Window" has that nostalgic effect as well.Reminds me of when I was about 10 listening to that song and album(Sunflower) and watching Sparrows land right outside MY window.

I would have loved to have heard some of the more obscure tracks such as At My Window as a kid - I'm sure Friends/Sunflower etc. could make a perfect sountrack to your childhood. I just had 20 Golden Greats and Made In USA, although there're obviously some great tracks on those.

The Beach Boys ARE the soundtrack to my life here in Physical Reality!! I'm a 31 year lead-guitarist in the Philly area and it all started with "In Concert '73".That was my 1st rock album. It got the ball rolling as far as being a muscian. The Hard Rock and Metal started in 1975 when I purchased KISS Alive!  Then there was no turning back.I still play 3 weekends a month with my band Acoustically Challenged.Never to "old" to Rock n' Roll BuddhaHat!!!
