Title: Dean Martin - 100th birthday
Post by: Rocker on July 13, 2017, 12:00:32 PM
June 7th marked the 100th birthday of Dino Crocetti, a.k.a. Dean Martin. One of the greatest entertainers of all time. There was no big publicity and I also only realized it a couple of days ago.

So, here's to Dino!

Happy 100th!

We used to watch his TV show every week.
I remember "Everybody Loves Somebody" as being a smash hit, hearing it all the time back in the mid 60s.
He also had a good movie career. I particularly liked him in Rio Bravo and Airport.

the great DeanO!!!
yeah, really strange no media coverage on this or a record label
release set celebrating.  I've always loved Dean.  I love his records,
his movies, his humour and his whole 'coolness' thing he had.
one of the best ever guys.

Dean Martin still lives? Checking Google, it says different information. Don't people celebrate birthday to living celebrities? If anybody - it's really strange tradition.

I think we're all aware that he's passed on RR. It's ok to say happy birthday to the deceased.

If you're "all aware", why say happy birthday? That's the question. It's from the coulda shoulda imaginary world. Doesn't make sense at all.

No problem honoring people on their birthdays if they're deceased.
For example, today is Woody Guthrie's birthday. 105. Yeah I know he died way too soon, 50 years ago. I'm celebrating his birthday, listening to some of his classics.
There isn't a tradition in Russia of honoring famous musicians, writers etc from the past on their birthdays?

No, what's the point? You can listen to dead musician's music without special reason to do it. You listen obviously because you like them. Still waiting smb. else will tell very clearly, point-by-point, why wish smb. Happy Birthday after the fact they've no more birthdays for many years now. It's really bizarre.

Is it bizarre to visit a loved one's grave on their birthday and say "happy birthday" to them? I mean, I just did it yesterday because it would've been my grandmother's 90th birthday. People are still gonna say "happy birthday" for people who have passed. But ok I hear ya RR.

This has always been my favorite Dean Martin song, but maybe that's because I've seen too many mafia movies, hah...
