Blue Jay Way. I have given this song ample opportunity to grow on me and it never has.

Is it me, or was Flying obviously a precursor to McCartney's Hot as Sun Glasses?

That, Blue Jay Way (which is actually OK, by the way) and the title track are the weakest. I'll go with the title track.

And speaking of the title track, I always thought the fade on it sounded like a part of a Doors song.

Call me crazy, but I prefer the MMT LP over Pepper.  This battle will be tougher for me.

But, Im going with Your Mother Should Know.  Its probably the only song off the album I never listen to on its own.

One of the least sounding 'Beatles' songs IMO. If it wasn't for the brief "Hello goodbye, hello goodbye" backing vocals and the tag/outro, I'd never listen to this song. One of, if not, the only Beatles song I feel that way about.

Hello Goodbye is cheesy annnnnd it's just my least fave. Personal taste I guess. I don't take Say to myself "this is a Paul song, therefore it must go."

Re Hello Goodbye - I don't like the lyrics and the melody isn't all that great compared to the other songs.
It reminds me of the McCartney song I can't stand - Let 'Em In.

It seems that most of the time I have to keep voting for the same song for half the album until finally I get enough people agreeing with me. So here goes, once again: Magical Mystery Tour

...not so boring, though.

Thanks to having, at least for the time being, a subscription to Amazon Music, I was able to listen to the entire MMT last night for probably the first time since my sister played the record back in 1967-8. Of course I've heard the individual songs gazillions of times over the years (with the exception of Blue Jay Way* and Your Mother Should Know, which I still heard a number of times). Listening with earphones made me really appreciate the instrumentation a lot more.
 
But still hasn't changed my opinion of Hello Goodbye  :-D

*For many years I thought this song was on The White Album instead of this one.

In fact, I think there's a few songs on this album that are transition songs between their middle and late stuff, sort of the way Help! has a lot of stuff that was a transition between their early and middle stuff.

I love Penny Lane. I love the bass line. I love the vocals. I love the trumpet. I wouldn't mind this one winning, but I can't vote for it.

Thing with SFF is it's really mundane. It's very cool that Paul played that Mellotron intro & sabotaged song etc. - well done, Paul! :3d

Why people don't explain the SFF choice? Don't you like "Penny Lane"? It's objectively better than it. Why not give Paul chance to win? It's always John song that wins. You realize what you do?

B.E., you said Paul will get chance later during early Survivor games. So...when is that chance? When do you vote for Paul song?

NOLA BB Fan, explain your choice too, what beautiful "Penny Lane" lacks that SFF has? & don't tell me again it's lyrics ::) I don't care big time about who dedicated John the song to, his childhood blah blah. Lyrics is the LEAST important aspect in song - reality check, you know.

Well, Paul's having his chance. He won Revolver and I voted for it. He could still win Magical Mystery Tour. Actually, I was disappointed that Your Mother Should Know and Baby You're A Rich Man were voted off so quickly. The White Album is a toss up. I don't know what to expect. Both Paul and John wrote fan favorites. Paul should also have a chance to win the late-period singles with Hey Jude. He'll clean up on the Let It Be album. Across the Universe is the only non-Paul song that even has a chance to make it to the final round. As for me? it's obvious I prefer John's songwriting, but I think John's songs were more team efforts. And that's what I love most..The Beatles. John let the rest of the guys shine on his songs. You can say John was lazier or less talented than Paul, but it was for the best! It might be Paul's fault (his great contributions) as much as anything that I vote for so many John songs! ;D

Btw, Penny Lane is my 2nd favorite song on MMT. And, yes, I like the lyrics of SFF more.

I DO like Penny Lane. Just like SFF more.
As for lyrics, we'll have to disagree on that. Depends on the type of song. For certain types of songs lyrics are vitally important (in my opinion).
However the reason I prefer SFF is the music. I like how it builds up with each verse. I really like the outro.
And I absolutely love cranberry sauce!  :-D
If it's any comfort to you, I like a lot more of the "Paul" songs on the White album as opposed to the "John" ones.

As great as the other tracks are, this is a pretty easy choice. Strawberry Fields Forever

Two of Paul's best songs up against possibly the best song in the catalog IMO (I go back and forth between it and Day in the Life).

Penny Lane. I named my cat after the song, so that's a reason :) A good reason? Probably not. But I like PL and SFF equally so it's a toss up for me.

Fool on the Hill

I generally like Paul's songs better than John's, especially for the later era.  For example, I think anything John did after 1970 is not as good as what Paul did around the same time.

However, since I think of Strawberry Fields as one of the Beatles' top ten best songs, although Penny Lane is great, I think Strawberry Fields is even better than Penny Lane.

This is an exception.

This is practically a 3-way tie, but I'll go with Fool on the Hill.

Some would say this is where the cracks began to show in the Beatles Mystique... Maybe more like hairline fractures....
