Title: Need some help with Surf's Up! Post by: ryan9699 on May 26, 2017, 07:22:07 PM Hey everyone,
I'm currently working on finishing my cover of Surf's Up but I have run into a bit of an issue. Due to the layering of harmonies and massive amounts of reverb on the master track, it is hard for me to pick apart the harmonized chords at the end of the song. I can't tell if the progression is Fm-EbM-Fm6-EbM or it is AbM-Gm-Fm-EbM. Can anyone help me? Any tips would be appreciated- at least I got the other parts figured out! Hi Ryan, as I hear it the piano chords are basically as follows (you can hear them here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3TRns_zssM). The letter after the slash is the bass note: Ab/F - Eb/F - Bb7 - Cm7 Actually, the sevenths in the last two chords are not particularly strong in the finished result so you could be excused for leaving them out. ;=) Hope this helps. Same think JK said except with an added C in the chord. RH G/Bb/C/Eb as opposed to just G/Bb/Eb Title: Re: Need some help with Surf's Up! I'll agree with that. It makes the change to a straightforward B flat chord even more stunning. Title: Post by: zachrwolfe on May 30, 2017, 07:29:29 PM
Title: Re: Need some help with Surf's Up! Post by: JK on May 31, 2017, 01:44:18 AM Getting a little pedantic here, but there's actually an Ab/Bb shoved in there for one sixteenth note, before the Bb. The rest looks great. Not pedantic at all, Zach. You've completed the picture. :=) Title: Re: Need some help with Surf's Up! Like a passing tone, only a whole chord? Interesting. It sounds good. Title: Post by: zachrwolfe on June 01, 2017, 04:05:36 PM
