Title: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: harrisonjon on February 11, 2017, 11:17:24 AM I am very fond of Time To Get Alone being followed by Never Learn Not To Love and the trio of All I Wanna Do-Forever-My Sweet Love
But I think the greatest pairing of songs on any album ever made is Kiss Me, Baby being followed by She Knows Me Too Well. I would also say that the whole of Side 2 of Today (minus Bull Session) is my favourite sequence of music anywhere. Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: the captain on February 11, 2017, 11:44:43 AM I'd have a really hard time voting against "Our Prayer" into "Heroes and Villains."
However, I'd also have a really hard time voting against "Fun Fun Fun" into "Don't Worry Baby." However, I'd also have a really hard time voting against the closing triumvirate on Surf's Up. However, I'd also have a really hard time voting against the entire tracklist of Pet Sounds. Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: JK on February 12, 2017, 03:50:10 AM For now, it's a 2fer pairing (although it probably doesn't count):
"Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring" followed by "Can't Wait Too Long" on the SS/WH 2fer. What a transition! Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: Rocky Raccoon on February 12, 2017, 08:12:09 AM I've always loved Let's Go Away for Awhile into Sloop John B on Pet Sounds. My argument against those who say Sloop doesn't belong on the album.
Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: jiggy22 on February 12, 2017, 11:17:13 AM "Wild Honey" into "Aren't You Glad" is a good one.
But of course who could ever forget the legendary "original" sequencing of "Summer of Love", "Kokomo", "Surf's Up", and "Wipe Out" on the PBS CD? Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: Kid Presentable on February 13, 2017, 12:05:36 AM The Warmth of the Sun ----> This Car of Mine
EASILY. :-D Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: Shane on February 13, 2017, 12:56:34 AM Even better: Cassius Love vs. Sonny Wilson, your nose is on the critical list ->>> Warmth of the Sun->>>This Car Of Mine
Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: Eric Aniversario on February 13, 2017, 01:35:15 AM Darlin into Marcella on the 2000 reissue of In Concert
Also Leaving This Town into Heroes And Villains into Funky Pretty on the same album. Radio Concert Promo 2 into Darlin (Live) on Endless Harmony (1998 issue) Soulful Ol Man Sunshine (Demo) into Soulful Ol Man Sunshine on Endless Harmony California Feeling into Looking Down The Coast on A postcard from California Song For Children into Child is Father Of The Man on BWPS Walk on By into Ol Man River/old folks at home on the Friends/20/20 twofer Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: JK on February 13, 2017, 01:37:20 AM Even better: Cassius Love vs. Sonny Wilson, your nose is on the critical list ->>> Warmth of the Sun->>>This Car Of Mine Interesting that you make use of a "talk track". My choice (on reflection) would be "Our Favorite Recording Sessions" followed by "Don't Back Down". The note Brian forgets in "Sessions" is the first pitched note you hear in "DBD"... Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: Kid Presentable on February 13, 2017, 02:50:54 AM Even better: Cassius Love vs. Sonny Wilson, your nose is on the critical list ->>> Warmth of the Sun->>>This Car Of Mine That sequence is so inappropriate, you almost have to try to do it that badly. Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: Watch a Cave on February 13, 2017, 05:30:53 AM How about..
All I Want To Do followed by.. The Nearest Faraway Place Always makes me laugh. Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: KDS on February 13, 2017, 05:45:22 AM Til I Die followed by Surf's Up.
Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: Emily on February 13, 2017, 05:59:30 AM Beginning of Pet Sounds or end of Surf's Up.
Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: Kid Presentable on February 13, 2017, 06:04:12 AM Being serious this time, I absolutely love All This Is That into Cuddle Up to end CATP.
Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: hideyotsuburaya on February 13, 2017, 01:43:23 PM I'm quite fine with:
I WANNA PICK YOU UP and then hearing AIRPLANE (from BB Love You) AT MY WINDOW and then COOL COOL WATER (from Sunflower) 100% in agreement with the already mentioned WALK ON BY and then OL' MAN RIVER Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: Adult Child on February 13, 2017, 04:15:30 PM What came to mind was the second side of Sunflower from 'All I Wanna Do' to 'Cool, Cool Water'. That whole sequence of songs is really, really beautiful.
Also 'The Night Was So Young' into 'I'll Bet He's Nice' on Love You. And the last three on Surf's Up. And, as the captain said, all of Pet Sounds. Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: DonnyL on February 13, 2017, 04:30:34 PM I think the greatest "1-2 punch" would have to be "California Girls"/"Let Him Run Wild" ... that said, the entirety of Side One of Summer Days to me is the best succession of tracks on any BB record. Along with Today, Side One just sounds exciting. The only thing that lets down Summer Days as a whole is the record starts to drag starting with "You're So Good To Me" (I like the song ... just a weird momentum) to the end of the record.
My second favorite string is "I Know There's An Answer"/"Here Today"/"I Just Wasn't Made for These Times"/"Pet Sounds" ... it's just an unusual trajectory of sound and kind of an eerie buildup ... Carl Wilson called Pet Sounds "a new place", and I think that string of tracks is the best example. Other fav raves include "Day in the Life of a Tree"/"'Til I Die"/"Surf's Up", "Rock & Roll Music"/"It's OK"/"Had to Phone Ya", and "Let Us Go On This Way"/"Roller Skating Child"/"Mona". Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: DonnyL on February 13, 2017, 04:31:47 PM I've always loved Let's Go Away for Awhile into Sloop John B on Pet Sounds. My argument against those who say Sloop doesn't belong on the album. Ahhh that's a good one too Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: SMiLE-addict on February 13, 2017, 05:47:48 PM Even better: Cassius Love vs. Sonny Wilson, your nose is on the critical list ->>> Warmth of the Sun->>>This Car Of Mine That sequence is so inappropriate, you almost have to try to do it that badly. Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: JK on February 14, 2017, 07:15:12 AM Couple of great pairings came to mind while listening to the GV box set (prompted by the other topic). Both are from Pet Sounds. One pairing is not in that compilation ("Don't Talk"/"Waiting For The Day"), the other is ("I Just Wasn't..."/"Pet Sounds").
I'd forgotten that the magnificent title track was on there----well done, compilers. :=) Title: Re: Most Satisfying Pairing of Tracks on an Album Post by: Jukka on February 14, 2017, 10:31:11 PM Shut Down 2 starting with FFF and DWB. And All Summer Long with IGA and ASL. In mean, those always bring this stupid smile to my face, like "yeah, two alltime immortal classic Travis back to back, yeah that's one way to start an album"... Not to meantion they were their lord knows how manyeth albums within what, about two years? The year of everything.
