Title: Half-Handed Cloud Post by: the captain on January 07, 2006, 10:49:49 AM Anyone familiar with this band? Its leader/songwriter/do-it-all, John Ringhofer, is a member of Sufjan Stevens' touring band (and Sufjan plays on his discs, as well).
It is overtly Christian, which (as some of you familiar with my stomach-ache know, I am very much not) generally troubles me...but I am listening to Halos and Lassos now (his next release), and considered his last year's album, Thy is a Word and Feet Need Lamps, to be among the top several discs of 2005. The music sounds like a combination of Zappa, Flaming Lips, a drum machine and little kids set free in a high school band room and I don't know what else...all with oddball stories, lessons and so on over the top, sung in a very Wayne Coyne style. It's oddly infectious, joyful and lovable. |
