Title: Brian speaks with The Exchange (10 min interview) Post by: Bud Shaver on May 13, 2016, 10:42:42 AM Sorry if this has popped up elsewhere. By Brian standards, this was a pretty nice interview re: Pet Sounds Anniversary.

He was in a responsive mood; sounded really cheerful. You can hear young Brian popping up in there here and there.

Loved the McCartney story! I agree. Hopefully comments about it won't get too heated. Title: Re: Brian speaks with The Exchange (10 min interview) Post by: Cyncie on May 13, 2016, 06:18:06 PM I love this interview! Brian is on it! Sounds just like a guy who knows what he wants, knows what's going on, and is able to communicate about that.
I'll just leave it at that. Title: Re: Brian speaks with The Exchange (10 min interview) Post by: Lowbacca on May 14, 2016, 05:00:22 AM Listening now... goes great with the morning coffee. Thanks!
Update: Great interview. Good questions and Brian is very engaged. He sounds way younger than 73 in this. Title: Re: Brian speaks with The Exchange (10 min interview) Post by: felipe on May 17, 2016, 01:19:36 PM Each day it becomes clearer that Brian is the one to blame about the auto-tune thing

I remember a big discussion about this when NPP came out and even though Brian said he used it someone argued he didn't say he used it on vocals and that he may have meant he used it on instruments! I noticed that from the interview but didn't want to mention it for fear of derailing this thread! ;D Title: Re: Brian speaks with The Exchange (10 min interview) Post by: ♩♬🐸 Billy C ♯♫♩🐇 on May 17, 2016, 03:55:38 PM Each day it becomes clearer that Brian is the one to blame about the auto-tune thing Told ya :) Title: Re: Brian speaks with The Exchange (10 min interview) Post by: CenturyDeprived on May 17, 2016, 04:09:07 PM Each day it becomes clearer that Brian is the one to blame about the auto-tune thing Yeah it's refreshing to hear Brian has no problem saying he uses Protools to pitch correct vocals. I noticed that from the interview but didn't want to mention it for fear of derailing this thread! ;D Well, there is still blame to be had (pointed at someone other than Brian) for an engineer or producer sloppily applying Autotune to the vocals. Yes, one could argue that Brian approved/signed off on the final mixes. But the point being: Autotune is IMO basically ok if it's used properly and transparently. See the Gershwin album for an example of that. While there are still some trace hints of it on Gershwin, pitch correction was done with MUCH more care and finesse compared to NPP. Same with TLOS - I don't recall hearing any pitch correction on it off the top of my head. There probably is some here and there, but it's well done and doesn't stick out. Good questions and Brian is very engaged. He sounds way younger than 73 in this. Agree with all this (including the coffee). Heart-warming and at times hilarious----but mainly heart-warming. :=) Edit: Interesting that he should mention The Doors again. He'd already mentioned them in our Q&A when CSM asked him about competition from other acts back then. |
