Title: 1993 - Good Vibrations Tour
Post by: KDS on March 25, 2016, 05:54:54 AM
So, with the MIC box and the PS50 box, we're getting some bits and pieces from the 1993 Tour.

What are the chances that we, one day, we a real tangible live release from that tour?

Minimal I think -- and understandably so. While the box set portions (which is what we've had on Made in California and the new Pet Sounds set) were great, the performances and arrangements for much of the rest of the sets were pretty weak...

Really?  I'd always heard good things about that tour.

It's available on youtube : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-c5k6RMcpgE&list=PLvRRaqL2VXRUuAhzh3pLViUaa210mIYhR (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-c5k6RMcpgE&list=PLvRRaqL2VXRUuAhzh3pLViUaa210mIYhR)

The jagged organ on CG and sluring, nasal Mike Love calls for this set to certainly not be released  ;D

Give it to Joe Thomas, he'll fix it.

There's a good chance of that happening in 2043!

That's still before we get a full concert from C50.

I think that they should focus on concerts that have Brian and Dennis in them first before releasing the post Dennis stuff. "Leid'  from Hawaii" would be a good start just because of how weird it is also they could do a cd/dvd/blu ray release.. but yeah if they are going to release complete concerts they need to focus on the ones with ALL the members in it maybe excluding Bruce depending on when it was recorded obviously he wouldn't be on the early live recordings or some from the 70's.

A live box set of interesting performances from all portions of the band's career would be pretty cool.

I'd vote for a formal release of the 1993 Paramount show; I think it sounds great on You Tube, and love the unplugged segment. I have a show from that tour from Pa. and it sounds goods, but not near as good as the Paramount show.

this is an amazing look at Al's harmony part.  It shows how every part was important.  how complex his part was.

The '93 Paramount show isn't markedly any worse performance-wise than a typical 90s show. Any shortcomings (cheesy 90s keyboards, nasaly vocals, etc.) might be more pronounced because not only is it a soundboard recording, it's a very dry soundboard with very little audience noise. You can barely heard the audience even in-between songs.

I suppose they put a little more energy and vigor into the "boxed set" set of songs, but the show is okay overall. The most problematic part of the show is the drumming, but really that's going to be a problem on any 90s show they release to some degree.

I'd say outside of 60s and 70s shows, the '93 Paramount show is probably a prime candidate to release, especially if we're talking 90s shows. I suppose ideally they could do a big live boxed set, take the interesting "boxed set" set from that '93 show, and fill in other stuff from better, more interesting shows or performances.

If they get their act together and finally get Beach Boys Central up and running they could offer all those shows as downloads and make some money without having to do much.

Exactly. Easy money. Minimal effort. They could release a show from roughly each decade once per month and have enough to do that for years.

Month 1

Michigan '66
Carnegie Hall '72
Washington DC '80
Paramount Theatre '93
Red Rocks 2012

Month 2

One of numerous '67 soundboards
Something from the '73 tour
Cleveland '82
St. Louis '95
Royal Albert Hall 2012

Month 3

1968 soundboard
1975 tour soundboard
1989 soundboard
1993 soundboard
Hollywood Bowl 2012

and so on....and I'm just going off stuff we know about. They have multitrack and live soundboard tapes from shows we probably don't even know about. It's well-known they recorded a string of shows in 1972/73 for "In Concert", but they were sporadically capturing shows on multitrack into the 80s and maybe even the 90s.

It would save me giving my money to other people for these questionable releases they have out just now, e.g., Washington 84, Liberty Bell etc!
