Title: Good Vibrations in the National Recording Registry? Post by: You Kane, You Commanded, You Conquered on March 23, 2016, 10:46:53 AM So, the Library of Congress has added 25 new audio recordings to their National Recording Registry, for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Included this year are Billy Joel's "Piano Man" and Metallica's "Master of Puppets" (Pet Sounds was inducted in 2004). Well, this got me wondering as to why Good Vibrations isn't on there! I think we can all agree it is culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant!

Given that Good Vibrations appears on Smiley Smile, I don't think it's likely. Although, you can also make the argument that Piano Man, the album, is not nearly as good as other Billy Joel albums (ie. If that's the case, I really hope it's the song Piano Man, not the album. It's pretty weak by Joel standards. In that case, then you're 100% right that Good Vibrations should absolutely be on there. Not one song or album by the most important rock band in history - The Beatles. I was thinking it was because they were British, but Pink Floyd is on there for DSOTM.
