Off the top of my head and with no offence meant (and none taken):

< Al nixes sex in L.A. >

Glædelig Jul, Rasmus!

Here's another, with two Boys this time (and a lyricist):

< Pool's a risk, Carl. Al racks Ira's loop. >

I'm sure someone can improve on that! ;D

Nice one, Mr C. :=)

Well, that's the "Classic Five"...

Next up is Bruce (something with "curb", methinks). Or Murry ("satyr" and "rum"?). Or David ("diva"??).

Where's Rasmus when he's needed?  ;D

This is what I've got so far for David:

 < "Oh, a disk (RAM)----evade!" (Dave Marks, Idaho) >

And for BJ (plus Mr Ritz):

< 'Tis Bruce. Lyle curbs it. >

Murry gets two. At home:

And on the road:

< Treble, Delbert! >

Blondie and Ricky are proving troublesome. This underwhelming attempt (featuring the ubiquitous Al in an unexpected role) takes an oblique look at "Leaving This Town"----by sea, apparently, possibly at night:

< Editor Al: "Let's go, O Moog! Stellar! O tide!" >

They don't all have to be palindromes, y'all. Could anything fan-poetic, really - even X-massy ones!!!

John. Didn't you once write a verse about some BB-concert to the tune of an old christmas standard?? If so, please re-sound it here for us to sing!

No sooner said than etc. It's no masterpiece but quite fun if you're p***ed (so I've been told).
This is to be sung to the tune of "Jingle Bells". It's about the BW concert I saw in London in 2008. The bold bits are on the beat (less visible here unfortunately):

CHORUS I:
Kenwood House, here I come
Much to my surprise
Carrying a hamper full
Of wine 'n' cheese 'n' pies, oh
Found row three, in block C
Deckchairs in the grass
Guzzling free Jacques Cider With Fruit
And crashing on our ass

VERSE:
Later when I heard
That the concert was quite bad
The atmosphere turned blue
I was hopping mad
When AGD explained
I felt kinda sad
But when I thought back on all I'd seen
Well I was f***ing glad, so...

CHORUS II:
Kenwood House, there I was
Chuffed and thrilled to bits
Brian Wilson and the guys
Churning out the hits, oh
Then we all sang a round
"Row, row, row your boat"
Bellowing along to every song
I wrecked my f***ing throat

The concert really did get a bad review----even from band members ("Brian might as well not have been there!")----but I loved every minute of it. So did this Japanese guy sitting next to me. He was a serious Wild Honey fan and I'll never forget the expression on his face when they launched into "I'd Love Just Once to See You"... (Jacques Cider was that evening's sponsor.)

I was at that one too, and to be honest I don't remember it being that bad either (though I certainly did partake in the silly cider, which may have made a difference).  "I'd Love Just Once To See You" was a particular delight (though I think I was the only person in my immediate vicinity who knew it).  I've been to worse, anyway.

It was my lone BB-related concert, so I have nothing to compare it to. As for "ILJOTSY", I never thought I'd find myself yelling "IN THE NUDE!" along with a bunch of complete strangers.

I'll try... So here comes yet another haiku-palindrome (just Love 'em!), this time inspired by John (godt nytår!) and hai(ku)jacked by myself. The word "debut" might refer to Mike's ditto as an 'executive producer' back i '92 (see other haiku-drome shown below!) And as always: "No offence meant (and none taken)"...

Happy new year! And like we say in Denmark: 'Yuletide lasts until easter!'
So here are two of JOHN K's new 'dromes, morphed into one haiku-palindrome by Li'l~palin'drom'erBoy (about Alan, the producer, working his Red Barn Studio - not a perfect haiku-drome, but rather two separate ones - 1+3 & 2):

   >GO, O MOOG!<

>Editor Al: "Let's go!"

    (Al nixes sex in L.A.)

"O moog! Stellar! O tide!<

Let's keep this fine thread going with the last verse of my Christmas rewrite "The Twelve Days of Beach Boys"---I assume everyone knows the tune:

On the twelfth day of Christmas, the Beach Boys gave to me
Twelve Dennies drumming
Eleven Rhondas helping
Ten winds a-blowing
Nine monsters mashing
Eight showboats crawling
Seven Hondas roaring
Six surfers rocking
Five gold discs
Four Disney girls
Three moon dawgs
Two cuckoo clocks
And a day in the life of a tree

Thanx to JOHN the K (primarily - AND for the carolling!!) we can now add 3 new haiku-dromes - + a senryu-one to this Beach Boys collection of poetry pearls & puns...

I've been racking my brains for days trying to organize a palindrome based around Anna Lee. This is as far as I've got----the middle sentence needs working on. Any ideas, Rasmus?

<Al was Anna Lee's exam pupil. "Saga" slip-up maxes eel. Anna saw L.A.>

Maybe, John. Here goes:
                                                                                                                                                                                     >PUPIL SLIP-UP<                     [an irregular haiku-palindrome by John k/Li'l~palin'drom'erBoy]
>An 'Al' was Anna Lee's

maxes eel. Anna SAW Lana!<

And without being too anal-retentive about it, there is the old one from Quzi:
"Lana deified anal" - and my follow up:
"Anna Lee a.k.a. 'Eel-Anna'!" with the unavoidable non-palindromic conclusion:
- which WOULD make them 'anna-lee: The Healers ...'

Murry already had two:

1) At home:

< Pop, no eye! Eye on, Pop! >

2) And on the road:

< Treble, Delbert! >

To which I now add 3) In the studio:

< Bonk pots... SURGE, Reg/Russ----top knob! >

Tricky business, organizing a palindrome around the word "surge"----this one will do for now...

No, I'm not getting warm feets. Just trying to work out who these guys are, featured in #3. I guess that 'Reg' is short for Murry's alias:  Reggie (like I suggested^). Russ could be both Titelman or even Russ Regan. But I'd go for Leon Russell ('Russ' for short (?). With David Marks as the common denominator, I'd say that 'Delbert' from #2 could only be american musician Delbert McClinton, since Dave has worked with both Leon and Delbert!

My idea was that Murry was more interested in surging than in who the heck was manning the board at the time and just dug his nails in further and spat out a couple of names...

Yes, the great Delbert McClinton, whose harmonica-playing on Bruce Channel's "Hey! Baby" apparently influenced John Lennon. He might have been playing a bass harmonica when Murry shouted at him to play the other one instead...

How can anyone decamp, as long as Mr. j keeps on setting them up so cunningly, so that one can't help but stay a happy camper!
The next one is from when Murry Gage Wilson/'Reg' would be placed behind an unplugged mixing console in the studio.
It still needs improving, John & all others:

I have a solution----of a kind. (I'm assuming I can treat Brian as a single syllable.) If you remove the "o" from debonair, you can squeeze it onto one line. Add a spot more Spanish and you get:

"Defray", said deb'nair
Banana, "Mi mañana...
Brian? Bed!!" Daisy arfed.

And a Happy Valentine to you, sir. :=)

My next project is to be a Dennis palindrome in which he doesn't sin----well, not in so many words...

But sin he does in this first somewhat strained attempt:

This is turning into a haiku-silo'drome; in that it goes 'wound and awound a.s.o., a.s.f.. And then comes out WIGHT here!(to quote Elmer F.)...
And FURTHURmore: Once you've finished readin' the bleedin' thing, it bloody well turns around, starting all over again with the very same words!
So? Live with it OR move it over to The Sandbox!

It is a difficult deed indeed, making them up. Like I've NEVER managed to do a single haiku-palindrome all alone!
A tanka-one, the odd senryu-ones. Yes - but never that elusive haiku'drome!
All of the bakers dozen (apart from the ones, done solo by john k) has been sponged/baked off of other members' talent by my own sorry self! That is UNTIL the following  modest attempt came to me:

                         -12-

           >Murr*  'O~o'  Wilson:

"He ...? SKRAM! Evade, Dave Marks!!  Eh?

            No Sliwo' OR Rum?!"<

I'd say it definitely belongs here, to inject a badly needed dose of positivity to these parts. Until we fall out, that is. :lol

Oh. I see what you mean----the "a" and the "i". Very diplomatically (and poetically) put, sir!

No, that will never do. I shall rewrite the first and last three syllables in due course...

Edit: I have a makeshift solution, although it does mean there are now three dogs. I hope Brian can cope:

A gut-feeling has it, that the night in question was exactly when Brian wrote Solar System - in the presence of (his sometimes 'editor') Al!

Looking for a palindrome that included all 1960s Beach Boys and never expecting to meet such a tall order, I actually seem to have come quite close to succeeding (six out of seven ain't bad):

Evade Kim, Ryanair. Be curbed, urn, alas in Ned's U.K. Capitol plot. I pack U.S. Dennis, Alan, rude Bruce, Brian (Ayr), Mike, Dave...

Several litres of blood, sweat and tears later, this is my attempt at a Smile palindrome. Of course, a lot of extraneous stuff crept in as well----it has to, otherwise it simply wouldn't read in both directions. Carl's there this time, Al of course----and, most curiously, the Scottish connection again.

Al, up----a.k.a... win! Eek! Look slow on wonderful Ullapool decal art. Lunar dadaism row mars L.A. prelims. All racks are paper----ask Carl (L.A.). Smiler pals ram worms. I, a dad, ran ultra-laced. Loop Al, Lulu. Fred: "Now, now... ol' skool." (Keeni waka pula.)

John's panultimate palindrome has to be the most ambitious one since our limerick-palindrome. Both for its sheer volume and in the way that it seeks (impressively so) to namecheck all the first 7 Beach Boys-members AND their old record label! Precious Little can be added ...
There is a valid reason for the non-inclusion of Carl, though: It's simply HIS MEMO/statement, writing about the "Holland" album project: "I convinced the others that it would be good for all of us to catch our breath in the Netherlands and to get some new impulses ..." (Carl quoted from  Kent Crowley's new Carl Wilson-biography).
So in this scenario, "Ned's" is Carl's pet-name for Netherlands/Holland. Carl wanted to incorporate  both Bruce (WHO had just left the band, ergo: "rude Bruce") and Dave Marks into this project.
Carl promised the Warner execs at a meeting in London, that HE would 'deliver' the whole band (including Brian plus Dave & Bruce) on a plane from L.A. to Amsterdam - Ryanair(?) or Dutch Company, klm (Carl makes a palindromic typo when he writes 'kim'! "the 'urn is short for return. The Word ayr Means: handsome guy in lebanese.

Finally john's drome is arranged into a tanka-palindrome with syllables distributes as 5/7/5/7/7 +1, when we accept that Ryanair is pronounced as having 2 syllables, Brian just a single and with Dave as an extra final one!

I am indeed honoured by your tankadrome, Rasmus, and by your thorough and most plausible explanation. Mine is prosaic by comparison:

- Airline companies in general are advised not to fly over North Korea (Kim Jong-un);
- Ned is Ned Miller, who moved from Fabor to Capitol after the first unsuccessful release of "From A Jack To A King" and back to Fabor for its million-selling re-release in 1962;
- Brian may well be Brian Ginley, Scottish Labour Party councillor for Ayr East;
- Bruce is only rude because the palindrome demands it (told you it was prosaic!).

Now that we've come this far (OUT?!), why not go ALL IN, making that "KEENI WAKA" even keenier & whackier!
Are we all keen on doing it?
Right ... If we combine john's (who should be very proud!) SMiLE haiku- & tanka'dromes, we got ourselves 2 1/2 tanka-palindrome. So let's build a (tripel-) SMiLE tanka'drome triptych: I suggest that we make the 3'rd verse into an 'Elements
Suite'. WATER is already covered (the Fire-VESSEL) & "DADA"-ism from verse I). FIRE too ('moo' & 'flame'). All we need is some Vega-T (earth).
And maybe we can borrow and somehow fit D Cunningham's 'AIR-line into the middle line(?):
"Yon "AIR" ?! BRIAN - OY!"
So, DIG IN!

That does complicate matters, but you're quite right----it's the only way.

I see your tankas stretch the rules somewhat----I assume it's deliberate?

1) 6-7-6-8-7

If so, it gives us a little leeway with that new second verse rhythm-wise.

SMiLE TANKA'DROME TRIPTYCH above (though not always Hi-li'ted!). So here comes a key:

AL,CARL, BRIAN
"LOOK", "WONDERFUL" & ["Love To Say:] DADA"
From Verse 2 (an 'Elements Suite'):
FIRE + flame
"AIR"
Earth (parsnips pots + top)
WATER (Fire-VESSEL + DADA, Water & gas + "now, now" from Cool Cool Water ...

Finally: TANDYN (Almer from 'The Associaltion')
Toner ("TONES"), SMiLEr, ["Do You Like:] WORMS" & "I ---- RAN"
["Loop de] LOOP" (Al's own SMiLE-like ordeal!)
FRED (Vail: the Beach Boys-manager back then)
And the great SMiLE-quote: "KEENI WAKA PULA"
And don't forget to read the whole thing BACKWARDS, just once ...

So, what's ^UP^ with "TAWNY"? Well, it can be a drinkable 'Port - a DO or DIE' from Surf's Up!

WHEW! Now, lets slow down a bit a give overworked JOHN a break ...
Instead we could examine some nice but overlooked palindromes from earlier:
The first is an 'old' one (january '16), that I just discovered yesterday - for the upteenth time starring Al!
It's from another topic and the set-up is quite interesting!
One member makes the 'observation' that: "Al is the little mammal who somehow lived through extinction"(the captain)!
From then it takes john k. only 57 minutes to make the following palindrome(!) featuring 'Bob' (Robert) Lamm from Chicago and a L.A.-diva (Karen Lamm? who's later 'spotted' BIGTIME by our Dennis!
Which brings us to the next palindrome: Starring an x-rated Tsar Dennis. Both palindromes are getting the inevitable spin inside the old HAIKU'DROME.
[As per usual, when you're short a syllable/word or two, always ask the magic *stars*, use 'em wisely and leave the rest to the readers' good taste! and imagination ...

Two-fer haiku-palindrome(s) by john k:

>Avid Al stops 'Bob'

(Lamm): Am I mammal?" (Bob spots -

*** L.A. diva)<

                        ~

>Shoot, o how *: Tsar (!)

Dennis kayaks in Nedra's

two hot ******'  "OOH"s!!<

From 3'rd verse, we still need to solve this mystery: Who might that "Lulu" be, chanting "KEENI WAKA PULA" right after Fred 'ultra-laced' Vail's intervention?
That is a no-brainer once we think HAWAIIAN!

She'd be the elusive and somewhat palindromic >"Honolulu Lulu" *Lono[h]< of Jan & Dean fame [*one of the Gods]:

>---- 'LULU: ...[Fred: 'Now, now ...
ol' skool!'] ... "KEENI WAKA PULA."<

What of the word 'SIRE' from verse 2? Let's not forget:
a)>BRI's Sir B!<
b)Sire Records hosted Brian's first official solo album, featuring the SMiLE'sque Rio Grande
c)Mike & Bruce performed To Sir[e] With Love WITH LULU(!), 2008

Now it's official: The official SMiLE-tanka'drome tour-de-force is absolutely perfect in ALL departments - albeit 'convoluted/enveloped in places. No questins asked!

One last item of unfinished business on the agen. Promise.
Since I'M the one claiming their perfection, allow me a re-tallyin'-the-tankas maneuver. But it's still gonna be tankaPLUS:

1'st line: a.k.a. as a-ka (5)
3'rd line: "decal" as dec'l (7)
Pushing "are" back from 6'th to 5'th line (7)
6'th line "Sire" uttered as 1 syllable(7)
7'th line DNA as D'NA(7)
8'th line: "Brian in 1 syllable:(7)

So that leaves us with:
5/7/7/7/7
7/7/7/6/7
10/7/7/7/7+1

Correxion (not very good with numbers):
5/7/5/7/7 (just perfect)
7/8/7/6/7
10/7/7/7/7+1
Mind you, this palindrome is a smorgasbord of possibilities!

Rasmus, this is what I have right now, with various jk stylistic traits reinstated. You're most welcome to reassemble it à la rs. :=)

Hopefully we're all ready to respectfully sink our teeth into a CORNyCOPIA of john's SMiLE triple-tanka'drome (in a final interpretation of mine - of it all).
I (for one :>) happily accept that the great SMiLE-chant [AND Fred Vail's 'intervention'] comes AFTER the tankas - as a spiritual conclusion!
[In this version, all the titles, names & quotes DIRECTLY linked to SMiLE are written "IN CAPITALS WITHIN QUOTATION MARKS", while all the ones, indirectly linked or just  Beach Boys-related are written IN CAPITAL LETTERS (all of which, explained in earlier posts)]:

You have been busy, sir. So was I for a while last night, trying to reassemble the whole thing as a perfect tankadrome triptych but it was fast losing its original character so I stopped. But you succeeded----with a spiritual conclusion to boot. I can't compete with that!

As for my own spiritual conclusion (Dutch Wisdom):

In theory, you could repeat the "won" of "wonderful" and Fred's first "now" in equal numbers all the way to infinity and still preserve the palindromic form but in practice you wouldn't get past "won". :hat

So where are BRUCE, MIKE & DENNIS, one might be name-checking!? No worries, they're there!
Dennis is implied/indicated TWICE, with a bonus palindrome to hoot - pardon: Boot ...:

"All 'racks' are NOT a saga, Sire!" >All racks? "Ask CARL, L.A.!"< (Dennis CARL Wilson).
Mike is quoted ONCE: 'WATER is a gas!' from Cool Cool Water ("cool water is SUCH a gas!").
Bruce? (and this is far-fetched): "LULU" performed 'To Sir[e] With Love', flanked by BRUCE & Mike in 2013!

Told you, it's perfection and a smorgasbord in ALL departments ...
[P.S.: The singles, GV and H&V have been left out of this SMiLE-poetry 'album' (Beatles-style!)]

This is what happens when I  go on this board before I have coffee in the morning.

Similar to a map of hidden loot from The Goonies… instructions on how to find some BB buried treasure in Durrie's attic shelving unit:

 Top reer: acetates… Parks!

Or… Brian junking SMiLE, and instead eating vinyl records... munching on the very magic he created... along with some hash brownies for good measure.

Skrap (SMiLE box) set… ate career + pot!

Just when we were running a bit low on fresh approaches! So could we have even more NEW ideas from fellow poetry-oysters waxing lyrical about The Beach Boys!

Frankly it would be sad & surprising if Mr. Van Dyke Parks' humble old self wasn't represented in a ...

Besides authoring the final ONE-LINER(s) [and I still see his TAWNY DNA and call it a drinkable 'Port ~ a DO-or-DIE' (from SURF'S UP!]. Van Dyke luckily DOES make a 'cameo' appearance by name; namely in the 5'th line (verse I):

And none intended! Well. It's a bit tricky, actually. The palindrome in question begins "L.A. Lana sexes..." but propriety forbids me from finishing it, hahaha.

Less controversially, I was toying with BB song titles in a palindrome while out walking the dog and this is what I ended up with:

Generated----this is what separates the men from the boys, so to speak. We craft our palindromes, syllable by hard-won syllable.

There are two sites that have helped me at times, one called Back Words (reversible pairs of words, eg stop and pots) and the wiki palindromic word page, but these are best likened to glue to hold it all together.

That said, "the surest mask" has the ring of a compliment!

Let's be positive and think "gold-lamé". ;=)

It must be habit, but I inevitably replace the "magic stars" in my mind with a string of expletives. All in good fun, of course. (As in "We're his ******* messengers".)

And it's habit again, perhaps, and not a good one, but would it have been a lawsuit that Mike "WON"?  ;D

All this aside, excellent work, sir (more play than work, of course). The (alliterative) rhymes really carry it along.

> Anna, George... heed Melua, PiL, ELO, Diana V., Ringo, gay A.J., Depp! O H.C. Minh, O John, I'm chopped! Jay (agog), Nirvana, Idol, Eli, Paul, EmDeeH (e.g. Roeg, Anna)... <

Rasmus, maybe you'd like to check that it is indeed palindromic. I must get back to work!

And so must I (and this is it - for the time being!).
If this is you being 'chopped, well truly "I'm amazed"!

So here it is, palindromic'ly controlled and all. And it amounts to a tanka+haiku-drome!
[Melua is a singer and so is Diana V (not to be confused with Diana W!). "Gay A.J." would be the - normally - glad AL J...

jay!! And for the movie buffs: Roeg & Depp! Who's 'Eli', then?

I saw Jay (once he'd popped up in my palindrome and needed justifying) as Jay Kay of Jamiroquai (or, on reflection, possibly he of the Americans). Eli is either actor Eli Wallach or he of the Thirteenth Confession (Laura Nyro's second album). ("Anna (Lee)" is of course the sung link between the Beatles and the BB .)

All this aside, you've made it into something truly special. Thank you.

If one should need the opening line to be a perfect 5-syll's one, 4 magic stars could be sprinkled to indicate [take] heed! as if reminding everybody that 'IT' comes to all of us - eventually! Anna Lee 'the healer'. We need her!
Btw: Who or what is 'Pil'? ... O no, Sir - I'm NOT giving You lip<!
(Over here I feel like a 'one-trick-pony' version of Paul Simon back in the mid-1960's, coming to England to nerd with big words & poetry!).

Here's a REAL challenge for the VISUALLY minded: COMPUTER WISE amongst our members (and guests) to take on!
Ah, some of you guessed already!
As an extra tribute/hommage  in honour of the late & GREAT George Martin, could/would someone create a modernized/updated version of the Sgt. Pepper album cover? Inserting photos of ALL the artists, bands & persons, that are 'name-dropped' in john k's GEORGE MARTIN-poem (all of whom explained in the replies ^above^) ! ...
Preferably discretely numbered and/or masked in order to identify each individual! And then upload it here for us all to marvel at!! Supposedly there are any number of ways in which to solve this one ...
Keep this respectfully in mind: That original cover artist, Peter Blake is a friend of Brian's! And include the two men, doing right by them BOTH, this time around!
Hopefully john is 'k with this baroque ("AGOG") idea!?
CAN'T WAIT to see this one happening!...

One of the great qualities about ^^this 'diversatile' collection of people^^ is that (with Beatles AND the 5'th B! as a starting point) it's NOT chosen out of private preferences but only from palindromic ones! And then Brian & Sir Peter Blake just MUST to be imported ...

George Martin makes three-way conversation in the Great Beyond:

> Klimt: "Sir George, sir, is Pepper all atonal art?"
Iris: "He paws at Fabs BAFTA swap, eh, sir? I..."
"Tra-la! Not all are pp EPs, Iris, e.g. roe, grist, milk..." <

Klimt is the Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) and Iris is the author and philosopher Iris Murdoch (1919-1999), who once wrote "I think the Beatles should be Poet Laureate".

[Edit: Iris M.'s remark was an afterthought]
[Second edit: Superfluous "s" has been removed!]

So here comes john k's George Martin r.i.p. diptych. In the last one there seemed to be one 's' too many in the beginning. So I have Klimt asking both G. Martin AND Siri  (just to get a second opinion!). And in this reading, 3 more pop-stars appear near the end of it: Tommy ROE, Hilary GRIST & MILK! (and they too can be added into a S. Pepper album-cover remake, should there ever be one).                                                                                          Shakespeare gets the final words: "The rest is silence" all silenced, naturally)...

Thanks, Rasmus. Looks good. And thanks for mentioning the extra s----I'd combined two alternatives by mistake. I've removed it from my original, where it now just reads Pepper...

Our little pantheon of cover adorners is growing by the minute! I must draw up a list some time. Hilary Grist----that a new name to me. I must check her out.

Why not?!

As for the George Martin Memorial Pepper album cover:

It's a bit quiet in the Smiley graphic design department----not a volunteer in sight. Heck, I'm even tempted to do a primitive cut-and-paste job myself. It may take a while----and it will need more than a little thought. But at least it will be done with love and care...

For all who might feel inspired to create their own palindromes, there is an on-line service called: palindromegenerator.com to help along the way. Start small, though. Like in a recent example: >Brianisms in 'Air', B.<.
Have fun!

H'mm. No comment!  :hat

As I see it, the aspiring palindromist should first choose a theme and then pick combinations of words relating to that theme that can be reversed into other combinations of words. The following lists can help but are a means to an end (call them the glue that holds it all together):

http://users.tinyonline.co.uk/gswithenbank/backword.htm
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:English_palindromes

What you need most, besides a way with words, is patience----masses of it. If you can use your spare time away from the computer to puzzle it out, so much the better. Walking the dog, happy hour, before dropping off to sleep at night... all perfect for that purpose.

I'm deeply honoured. But I would advise against holding your breath as the cover will take a while if I'm to do it.

So AGD has had a haiku-drome too... Care to link it?

There would  *cough* seem to be a new palindrome in the (ahem) pipeline...

And here it is...

This is a truly desperate attempt to showcase Mr Rieley:

Urb, for the uninitiated, is a character in Howard Browne's story Warrior of the Dawn. Wolf is probably Eddie Van Halen's bass-playing son (or Mozart).

As I so love the HOLLAND album - and all there is to it, I'll have to present john k's twin-tanka (the RengaWagner has done it again!) with Carl planning ahead in a memo, writing down WHO & WHAT to pack on the flight(s) from L.A. to Amsterdam. Feel like I owe it to account for the names in the beginning of verse II. Would suggest that CARL wanted to bring music along for added inspiration. We know that BRIAN brought the Randy Newman-LP. This was the era of the great singer/songwriters and of the almost TOO perfect sounding pop-singers (1972)!? So9 with that in mind, here's the list again: Boston (we know now Carl had cultivated a hard(er) rock streak!), Kris (Kristofferson), 'Wolf' (Mozart), Lee (Hazlewood), Fred (for Brian: Astaire Sings Gershwin), Art (Garfunkel), K.C. (Karen Carpenter). 'JACK' can only be Mr. Rieley!
[For the uninitiated: These names have nothing to do with the George Martin Memorial! (take all the time you'd need, jk!) And getting back to HOLLAND turf: Why not bring your S.O.S. rewrite (I'm sure that many of us members, especially ex- & former ex-ones have 'been there'!)]

OK, sorry. There are, of course, 1001 reasons for being offline, most of which are nobody else's business.

All my holidays away from home are 100% internet-free. In fact I'm offline the moment I leave my desk.

Thanks for the response, Rasmus.

Regrettably, this is to be my last post. My work has been getting behind, to say nothing of personal commitments, which means taking drastic measures. I shall no doubt look in as a browser from time to time as there is so much to learn here. It has been great fun.

Can't really argue with that. But still it's very sad that you must decamp!!! All I can say is that it has been great fun and very educational too! But luckily we have more of your great ones to present in Hai[ku]jack'd and renga-versions:

                    -II-

Count on it! In a way, I'm just upholding a fine Smiley tradition of folks who say they're leaving. ;D

In that respect, hats off to a few like Mujan who keep their word. A great shame, of course, but they clearly have principles.

Now I'm "back"  I suppose I'd better start thinking about a new palindrome...

Well, I've been trying to do something with "Good Vibrations" for weeks but it has next to no palindromic potential, it seems. You might catch a whiff of it here (just follow the bouncing ball):

"A. Layne pets 1966 Dartmoor debutante no. nine [PP]

Here's one answer to john's philosophical question: "Perhaps I put too much faith in palindromes"(?) Even a super-palindrome like john's latest can get it wrong: Paul Tanner (not to be confused with Danny Tanner) DID Play the electro-theremin on the Wild Honey single. In that sense it IS "a P. Tanner-Oldie"! This fact aside, I'm aware that John mentions a U2-version!

This unholy mess started with Bono and co (and their producers) and just sort of spread, picking up Oasis, Hugo Wolf and goodness knows who else on the way. (U2 also do a song called "Wild Honey".)

> Liam, Lanois iced Adam, Stu, Al, Mullen (no stub), Edge, Ronda ("Lei'd"), Loren, Nat, Pa, Tony, Eno, H. Wolf, o noble Ono, Noel, Bono, Flo... "W. Honey", not a P. Tanner oldie (lad, no!). Reg debuts on, Nell umlauts "mad". A decisional mail? <

And here it is: This time a U2-inspired renga-palindrome featuring their super-producers: Lanois & Eno [PA='REG'gie Dunbar, Loren=Darro & Tony=Asher, Nat=King Cole?] by RengaWagneR:

        ->Liam, LANOIS,

  'iced ADAM', Stu, AL, MULLEN

     (no stub), EDGE, RONDA

("LEI'd"), LOREN, Nat, PA, TONY,

      ENO, H. Wolf (o noble):
                    ~
         Ono, Noel, BONO,

    Flo... "W. HONEY" - not a P.

      Tanner-Oldie (lad, NO!).

  'Reg' debuts on, Nell umlauts

    "mad". A decisional mail?<-

Thank you, Rasmus.

For the sake of (ahem) completeness:

- Stu is probably Ian Stewart who jammed with Led Zep on "Boogie With Stu"
- Flo may be hip hop artist Flo Rida, Florence (of Machine fame) or even Florence Ballard, formerly of The Supremes
- Nell is either Nelly Furtado or rapper Nelly----possibly

This palindrome dedicated to my "Damascene" BB song will be my last for a while (famous last words). I'm beginning to run out of steam (what there was of it) and (joking apart) it really is encroaching on my work and sleep (every new one is taking longer to assemble than its predecessor).

Rasmus, I feel truly honoured by your "rengadromes". It makes me feel all these crazy palindromes of mine have been worthwhile. It certainly makes them look better!

And if a new 'drome should suggest itself to me in a major way (i.e., a big chunk arrives more or less fully formed), believe me I shall do my palindromic duty and finish it. :=)

Whatever the case, I'm not leaving! :lol

Many loose ends splendidly tied up there, Rasmus. Once again my simple palindrome has been taken to another level!

As for Nadine, I knew nothing about a film until today! (I was thinking of the Chuck Berry song.) "Summer's World" is a mashup of "Summer's Gone" and "Strange World". "[Think About The] Days" was dropped during a late stage and the difficult-to-reverse "Shelter" was never considered.  As for Enid, I can only think of children's author Enid Blyton. Rob could well be Rob Fraboni who I see mixed much of Holland and engineered "Sail On, Sailor"...

Six paltry words (here in italics) are all I get from my attempt to do something palindromic with American Spring's "Awake". It took an additional twenty-nine to get there. (Curiously, Elgar did write an Idyll, part of his opus 4 for piano.)

Thanks, Rasmus. Yes, Nik is Nick Walusco, actually a misspelling but it does give him the dubious honour of being included. Rik is most likely Ricky Fataar (if Doe & Abbott can misspell it in Back to the Beach, so can I). I envisaged Lu to be the multi-instrumentalist who has played with The Damned and P.I.L., among others: http://www.mekons.de/lu.htm

A Beatles road manager with a tenuous Smile connection, a world-class lyricist and a UK Queen of Carthage----it took all these and more to make a palindrome out of Carl's famous remark. Ah! Mr Andersen. We visited his birthplace in the early '90s (and The Carl Nielsen Museum). Great place, Odense.

It took a while, and a good few compromises, but The Honeys finally made it (in the loosest possible sense, of course):

> Rae, here doth Ginger delete "Pray" (O boy!). Diane, drag Espagnole buoys. But Marilyn, I've led a parcel----"Go Seek" no more. Zero Monkees ogle crap Adele vinyl. I ram tubs, "You Belong" (Apse Garden Aid). Yo! Boyar Pete led Reg night-ode rehear... <

Those compromises included ditching an entire sentence, which prompted me to concoct a second Honeys/BB-related palindrome from some of what was left:

> Deirdre V: "I ran if Russia is surfin' a river dried." <

Well, we had a very good run over there in G.O.T Disc!, didn't we?
Here goes my adaptation of the Honeys-palindrome. Featuring DIANE & MARILYN, MAE Rovell (their mother) GINGER Blake (pet-named 'GIL'?), their '69 single: "ToNIGHT YOU BELONG To Me"/*GOODNIGHT*MY*LOVE*. Around the same time, they recorded "Come To Me"/"Holiday" [on the HONEYS COLLECTION-CD] produced by 'REGgie Dunbar'/Murry Wilson (Marilyn's father-in-law). An ARP-Synthesizer & Beach Boys' sideman: EDdie (Carter) who briefly was a member of The Legendary Masked Surfers together with the HONEYS (a.o.)...

In all the years I've been a member here, I've never understood a single post from you.  ;D

To mark our arrival in the Sandbox, here is a palindrome about that fine place----or rather about the place that inspired it.

A palindrome is a little world all to itself, with a beginning and an end and nothing either side. (It's interesting what Wikipedia has to say about its history.)

To give an idea of how these things work (at least in my case), for this one I took the words <sand>, <box>, <Weimaraner>, <piano> and <Louie> (Banana featured in an earlier palindrome; Louie was quite enough trouble to reverse!). Take <piano>, which reverses as <onaip>. This can best (or maybe only) be divided into <ona> and <ip>. Then <ona> becomes <Mona> and <ip> becomes <Ipanema>. The added "anema" conveniently reverses in its entirety as <Amen, a> but to accommodate the <M>of <Mona> after <piano> means adding <o> to make <MO>, the code for Missouri. That <O> is easily tacked on at the opposite end. So far, so good...

> O Mona, Ipanema's gargantuan "O" grades. U.S. idyll as sand in a box of tense Weimaraner nuts (ed.).  "Dog-nip?" "Si, Louie amigo dog. I'm a-e-i-u-o lisping." Oddest? "Un renar', ami." Ewes net fox (Oban). I'd nasally disused Argonaut nag-rags. Amen, a piano (MO) <

Thanx, John. Most instructive & inspirational! My own take goes straight into the 'HAIKUDROME' and the 'original sandbox'

And now a word of advice: know when to abandon a palindrome as a hopeless task. Foolishly, I set out to incorporate the innocent-looking words <Beautiful>, <Dreamer>, <Wake>, <Brian>, <Douglas> and <Wilson> in a palindrome. It took several nations (Ancient Rome, Italy, Greece, China, Japan, Finland and the US (Texas)) and real-life personalities (Toni Tennille, Li Wei, Ulysses Owens, Titus Aebutius, Dui Daiju and, obliquely, Paul Erdős) to get this sorry mess in place:

> Tennille/Brian won wad on Mykonos (Li Wei, Fuji). A Douglas rodeo wake: extrema Erdo sum (sui tu). "Beautiful" (U. Owens) new Oulu (FI). Tu, Aebutius, muso dreamer (TX). Eek! A woe dorsal. Guo Daiju: "Fie, Wilson!" O Kym, no dawn----own airbell in net <

I'm so confused.

How do you think I feel? :lol

Actually, for the reader it's quite simple. The thing should read the same from right to left as it does from left to right. (Or rather the letters should, otherwise you wouldn't get further than "Dennis sinned" or "Able was I ere I saw Elba".) That's all the reader needs to know----not that that makes it any easier to construct...

Between the 50'ish Beach Boys-related palindromes made so far, not a single one has the actual "America's Band" name spelled out!? Well, I know there's an answer :D (and this one mentions BRI and a Great Danish storyteller!:

           >and B.B.' dna:<                          {a BEACH BOYS' haiku-drome by SMiLErPal'dromerBoy}

           ->A SURE dna?

BEACH BOYS' ? Yo!  B** = H.C.A.!
         ^
       E-Band =  er....  U*S*A<-

Beach Boys signed with the 3 big record corporations back then: CAPITOL/E.M.I., WARNER Bros (Reprise) & COLUMBIA (CBS/Caribou). But the members soon enough found, they've gotten themselves into RAW deals - while the rec. execs found the BB members to be a RAW LOT! [Mini-RENga by SMiLErPal'dromerBoy:]

          ->O.k.: CAPITOL,

WARNER, (o' COL.) ? Loco!! [ren**]

        Raw lot, I pack - O'!<-

John, I see you've got the FI and the FIE but what of the FO? (allegedly, Beanstalk is Brian's fave fairytale!). Now, I'M FUMbling ...

There's a "foe" in a previous BB palindrome of mine but no "fum". But you've just taken care of that, so that's okay.

That mini-renga of yours is nothing but the truth----a "raw lot" indeed. ;D

And now the Touring Band (and a whole host of hapless hangers-on) gets saddled with yet another wacky john k palindrome:
