Title: Wake the World is Do You Like Worms-y
Post by: Mitchell on October 21, 2015, 09:15:27 PM
The intro verse bit in WTW is verrrrry similar to the DYLW verse.

I haven't seen this mentioned/discussed before (I could be wrong!) but I think it warrants a new thread simply to draw attention to it. So Little Bird isn't the only "updated" Smile track on Friends...

You know...not only do you have a point, it sounds extremely plausible. Of course, short of asking Brian himself, we'll probably never know for sure. But it REALLY makes sense. I never thought about this before now.

Super cool observation. I never noticed it myself.

It has already been noted that the chorus is Very familiar....
Holidays anyone?

One more piece in the puzzle with regards to Friends being a somewhat 'post-psychedelic' and more homespun/relaxed version of the Smile style (at least partially). Making the album may have felt like finally making peace with the Smile music while other group members were now actively involved in terms of writing or even co-producing. Too bad this record was a commercial failure.

My wife pointed this out to me after one of Brian's shows this year...

I don't really hear it, but Aren't You Glad reminds me a lot of Love To Say Da Da.

Evidence of the link between these tracks so many seem to point to?

did Brian Wilson invent playing piano chords with a sustain pedal?

Never noticed! But yes sounds the same. I bet it is. We got to ask Brian next round of questions he have here. He is known to steel chords and reffs from other songs!
