It was featured in the 1962 movie How The West Was Won and sung by Debbie Reynolds playing a frontier woman. The song was my introduction to the traditional 'Greensleeves' song, but this iteration has modern lyrics by Sammy Cahn. The similarities between 'Home In the Meadow' and the 'Home On the Range' section of 'Cabin Essence' are striking. I can't help but wonder about it's influence either conscious or otherwise, although I've never seen or heard it mentioned. In case you don't know the song I'm talking about, here's a link and the lyrics. HOME IN THE MEADOW https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jH40e25oDkY Written by Sammy Cahn, theme in the 1962 movie, How the West Was Won, sung by Debbie Reynolds Away, Away Come away with me Where the grass grows wild, where the winds blow free Away, Away Come away with me And I'll build you a home in the meadow Come, Come There's a wondrous land For the hopeful heart, for the willing hand Come, Come There's a wondrous land Where I'll build you a home in the meadow The stars, the stars Oh how bright they'll shine On a world that the Lord must have helped design The stars, the stars Oh how bright they'll shine On that home we will build in the meadow Come, Come There's a wondrous land For the hopeful heart, for the willing hand Come. Come There's a wondrous land Where I'll build you a home in the meadow |
