Title: Collecting David Marks
Post by: GoogaMooga on September 07, 2015, 08:14:49 AM
search David Marks on amazon and you get 90 pages of listings, who has time for THAT?? Try David Marks Beach Boys and it's narrowed down to three pages, but still not complete.

What have I got, then?

Nascar, The Moon twofer, and The Marksmen cd's. Get them while you can, they are excellent!

What did I get rid of?
I Think About You Often, cd 2007, well mine was a cd-r, and the contents were forgettable, but I'm curious to know if it had a proper redbook cd release at all?

What am I missing, very HTF?
Something Funny Goin' On, Quiver Records, 2003
The few times I've seen this listed, it was priced at $100 plus, and they didn't ship to Denmark. Dunno if I'll ever find a copy. Supposed to be very good indeed. Must have been a small press run.

That leaves me looking for one live album, but then I'd like to know if he had any surf tribute group appearances, that might be deemed "collectible", anything of worth out there?

He also had a compilation called The Lost Years (a bunch of unreleased and rare stuff from his career as well as a "hits" CD), The Work Tapes (1992), and an album called The Circle Continues that was released in very limited quantities a few years back.

His reggae version of Kokomo is on Get the Boot.

Thanks, Real Beach Boy, yeah, now that you mention it, I remember The Lost Years - Work Tapes and Circle Continues I never heard of. Are all three official cd releases?

Also look for the 1969 album Atmosphere by the band Colours, which also has David as a contributor.

BeachBoys.com reviews a number of David's albums under the 'solo' category if that helps...l

I've got the Lost Years: 3 Disc Collection somewhere, it's brilliant. I also got it signed by Mr Marks himself when I met him in 2008 at a private gig he did with Jeff Foskett in London, Essex.

I keep hoping someone will part with one of these sets someday!

Are there any interviews or sources out there where David talked in more detail about his experiences studying at Berklee in Boston? Like what classes he took, what professors or instructors he may have studied with, where he was living in Boston, etc?
