Title: There are no good Beach Boys tattoos Post by: chaki on September 03, 2015, 03:32:55 PM most are like some lyrics in typeface or a crappy surfer scene with "warmth of the sun" in shitty cursive or something. can't get the brother logo because that would be appropriating native american culture. any good ideas for a tattoo?

Sounds just about in line with the infamous reaction to flak about the 1981 South African tour. Nice. Title: Re: There are no good Beach Boys tattoos Post by: Mike's Beard on September 03, 2015, 04:35:58 PM Do you think that Brother should have to change their logo?

Get the Brother logo and f*** what the Indians think. I think 'Native Americans' is the modern day, non-offensive term. Title: Re: There are no good Beach Boys tattoos Post by: SenorPotatoHead on September 03, 2015, 04:58:11 PM To turn this frown upside down, one could look at it another way: that the Brother logo pays homage and respect to Native Americans, and such a tattoo would be an honorable thing, and certainly much cooler/classier than a great many of the stupid things I have seen inked on people.
Title: Re: There are no good Beach Boys tattoos Post by: CenturyDeprived on September 03, 2015, 05:29:19 PM Do you think that Brother should have to change their logo? No, and I never suggested such. Any appropriation of a logo like that is in the eye of the beholder, and I rock a Brother Records shirt myself... That said, I just think that flat out saying a statement like "f*** what [fill in any given ethnic group here] thinks" is about as crass as it gets, IMHO. Not cool. There's plenty of ideas if you get creative. What about a sleeve of Frank Holmes' SMiLE drawings? Or find some way to crop the Wild Honey cover so it looks nice--a bunch of flowers as opposed to an awkward square of them I mean.
Or what about this: (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61y4v8x-yoL.jpg) turned upside down, covering your pubic region, minus the words--that area will be left blank, and where your willy will stick out! Gives a whole new meaning to bush, and jungle, and other nether-region slang. This reminds me of the lyrics to The Trader... Title: Re: There are no good Beach Boys tattoos Post by: wantsomecorn on September 03, 2015, 06:07:52 PM On a more serious note, having an image of a native american tattooed on you isn't cultural appropriation. It's not like wearing a Village-people headpiece or anything. I'd call it a respectful tribute, just like Brother's use of the image in the first place.

From the first page of the Pet Sounds Sessions booklet, I think this would make a pretty awesome tattoo. Sorry for the blurriness, I took a picture with my phone, I couldn't find a good one on the internet. Title: Re: There are no good Beach Boys tattoos Post by: chaki on September 04, 2015, 03:41:19 PM i think thats a cool thing to look at but would look like a mentally challenged 6 year old did it in tattoo form on someone's actual skin.
