Title: Source of DJ record-scratching sound effects in Summer of Love? Post by: CenturyDeprived on August 17, 2015, 02:24:04 PM Were the record-scratching sounds in Summer of Love sampled from some other song?
Or was this sound effect created specifically for SOL? Title: Re: Source of DJ record-scratching sound effects in Summer of Love? Post by: bgas on August 17, 2015, 03:03:01 PM yes

Or it knew what song it was being used for.

SOL is so fun to marvel at from so many levels, but I do wonder if a DJ actually made those scratches just for the song. Title: Re: Source of DJ record-scratching sound effects in Summer of Love? Post by: tpesky on August 17, 2015, 05:17:13 PM You would think with Al being so much of a problem with his negative attitude they would not have let him make the scratches!

That will all be available again on the SIP 50th anniversary when they unearth the time capsule Title: Re: Source of DJ record-scratching sound effects in Summer of Love? Post by: kwebb on August 18, 2015, 01:03:24 AM Mike will also be unearthing his lost masterpiece "Masterpiece" when the time capsule is unearthed. After a tour of "Summer In Paradise," he'll turn his eye toward his long lost work "Masterpiece." After a successful live tour of his great lost work, he'll be releasing a studio album called "Mike Love Presents MASTERPiECE" to critical acclaim.

Post by: Steve Latshaw on August 18, 2015, 09:13:29 AM Actually, I have read all of the informational nuggets here... and they are all wrong. I have it on good authority that the record slide effect on the track in question actually came from the multi-tracks for Take A Load Off Your Feet. The foot skipping sound was electronically re-processed to resemble a DJ album scratch.
Glad I could help. Title: Re: Source of DJ record-scratching sound effects in Summer of Love? Post by: guitarfool2002 on August 18, 2015, 09:35:46 AM Were the record-scratching sounds in Summer of Love sampled from some other song? Or was this sound effect created specifically for SOL? It was the first time the actual sound of failure was captured using ProTools in a studio. Title: Re: Source of DJ record-scratching sound effects in Summer of Love? Well, to be fair, at least it was given to a fan to sing as opposed to some indie hipster. Title: Re: Source of DJ record-scratching sound effects in Summer of Love? Post by: guitarfool2002 on August 18, 2015, 10:59:06 AM Right, would that have been before or after the deal to have Bart Simpson sing/rap with the band fell through?
Title: Re: Source of DJ record-scratching sound effects in Summer of Love? Post by: CenturyDeprived on August 18, 2015, 12:09:58 PM Right, would that have been before or after the deal to have Bart Simpson sing/rap with the band fell through? If the Bart idea had come to fruition, would the song have been featured on "The Simpsons Sing the Blues"? Was it rejected from that specific project and then reformulated into SOL? I totally owned the tape of this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Simpsons_Sing_the_Blues Also, I guess nobody knows the answer to my original question? Although a silly question, I really am curious to know if anyone has any real potential answers! Title: Re: Source of DJ record-scratching sound effects in Summer of Love?
