Title: Dance, Dance Dance on Spirit of America on Rdio
Post by: Joel Goldenberg on August 07, 2015, 11:41:57 AM
I subscribe to the streaming service Rdio and listened to the Spirit of America album on the site. The opening song Dance Dance Dance sounds to me either like really harsh true stereo, or fake stereo of a type I haven't heard. Anyone hear this and know what type of mix this is?

Yeah, I have Apple Music, and have noticed the exact same thing.

SPIRIT OF AMERICA (at least on its original LP release) has some wonky things going on with the Duophonic.  Listen to "Good to My Baby" -- Right in the middle the line "they think I'm bad and I treat her so mean" there's a phase shift or something.  And then later on, at the line "and we stay together while other couples come and go" there's another phase shift.

I remember that phase shift, now that you mention it. But the fake stereo tracks on the Spirit of America LP aren't Capitol's Duophonic, it's the bass-treble type.

I remember the fake treble/bass stereo on Spirit of America.  But, as Lee does, I also remember some of the tracks being duophonic; Good to My Baby and Do You Wanna Dance among them.

What a mess! And on the first CD that came out, IIRC, everything was mono, including Breakaway!
