Title: Alternate universe 2Fer Post by: shangaijoeBB on July 18, 2015, 11:05:28 AM Here's a little something iv'e been tinkering about these past few weeks. What if Brian was still the main songwriter (not necessarily producer) of the Beach Boys albums from 1969 and 1970. As much as I love both 20/20 and Sunflower (both in my top 5 for sure), assembling these 2 albums made me realize how much awesome Brian Wilson music didn't come out during this extraordinary period.
With the 1969 Reverberation, there is only one Dennis composition and the rest is all Brian, very much like Friends was. Like some kind of mini White Album, we follow Brian's take of revisited surf music, americana, psychedelic oddities and covers, sweet Pet Sounds-like ballads and a continuation of SMiLE experiments on tracks like Can't Wait Too Long. Add Some Music would have been out by the end of 1970 in that universe. Side A is a loose concept album about an old circus airplane driver who wants to get back in shape to win the heart of his beloved. The songs on Side B aren't related but sonically they recall a more updated Pet Sounds feel. Enjoy both albums, love & mercy! :) REVERBERATION - 1969 01 Do It Again 02 We're Together Again 03 Walk On By 04 All I Wanna Do 05 Sail Plane Song 06 I Went To Sleep 07 Celebrate the News 08 Break Away 09 Time To Get Alone 10 Cotton Fields 11 Old Man River/Old Folks At Home 12 Can't Wait Too Long ADD SOME MUSIC - 1970 01 Soulful Old Man 02 Loop de Loop 03 H.E.L.P Is On The Way 04 Take A Load Off Your Feet, Pete 05 Carnival 06 I Just Got My Pay 07 Games Two Can Play 08 Good Time 09 Add Some Music To Your Day 10 This Whole World 11 Where Is She? 12 Our Sweet Love 13 At My Window 14 Cool, Cool Water http://www86.zippyshare.com/v/ZzWAmRNv/file.html http://www31.zippyshare.com/v/q5giVpKd/file.html Title: Re: Alternate universe 2Fer Post by: Andrew G. You might want to reconsider that statement with the aim of making it less inaccurate. ;D Title: Re: Alternate universe 2Fer Post by: shangaijoeBB on July 21, 2015, 03:31:41 AM Thanks for the sharp observation, AGD! :-D
Well, at least that's some kind of reply to my post. Title: Re: Alternate universe 2Fer Post by: Andrew G. Doe on July 21, 2015, 03:56:40 AM Seriously, this was such a fertile and interesting time in the bands history, a box set - or at the very least, a deluxe reissue - of both albums would be required to adequately cover the topic. Not forgetting Fred's country album, of course...
