Title: Vocal double tracking / sync mistakes
Post by: CenturyDeprived on July 03, 2015, 05:27:28 PM
In some cases, these are minor timing issues where one of the Boys is vocally a tad out of sync with the other Boys, although other times there are cases of the wrong words being sung by one of the members (or remnants from an earlier take audibly bleeding through). In some cases, I think these mistakes actually add charm to the recordings.

What examples are out there?

I can think of:

-Lavender (near the beginning of the song, just after the title lyric, someone sings off sync)
-Kiss Me Baby (whoa baby is out of sync near the end)
-Your Summer Dream ("your" near the end is a tad off sync in one channel)
-Be With Me (a word is sung incorrectly in one of the channels "us" vs "we")
-Do it Again (I think I hear a remnant of "Surf Again" at some point)
-Little Honda (I recall that "lean with me" sounds off, like a wrong word is under it)
-Spring Vacation (either really sloppy ProTools editing, or some incorrect words were sung on the bridge… I can't quite tell)
-Girls on the Beach ( i'm fairly certain a word or two were sung by someone incorrectly, and some various sync issues occur throughout)

There are surely many other examples, does anyone have any to share?

Bridge to Surfer Girl (word "ride" out of sync).

Shut Down "AND NOW the 413" out of sync.

We'll run away. Ending.

In the back of my mind. Ending.

Oh, and the moaning on All I Want to Do is double-tracked and out of sync. :lol

The first one that came to my mind.

Here's a useless (or useful depending on how much of a fan you are) page.

This kind of stuff is something i love about BB recordings. These "mistakes" add a cool human element to the recordings that make them all that much more interesting and enjoyable to listen to.

The "git" flub (comin' in too early) at the start of the second "water, water..." bit of the album version of California Saga/California is all too charming and a longtime personal fave.

The Do It Again entry should read, "No sh*t, let's pull this off now."

It's actually Brian saying the "I love you." Give it another few listens. I always thought it was Carl too.

Agree!  Hard to imagine the song without it.

If I remember correctly many of Dennis's early lead vocals were not well synched.  Do You Wanna Dance, In the Back of My Mind.

I couldn't agree more, CM.

In the version of "Kiss Me Baby" on the Warmth of the Sun comp and maybe elsewhere, the powers that be saw fit to remove one of Mike's whoa's (during the "sync mistake" the third and last time round) and emasculated the song in the process. What makes it even more inexcusable is that they removed the wrong whoa! The previous two (in sync) occur before the beat, but now the third one sits lamely on the beat, destroying the whole effect.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if at the time Brian was taken with this misstep and even felt it added something special to the song.
